I had my eye on the Razer Boomslang 2000 until Razer went belly up :( Had a Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer for a couple months but it died on me and felt a bit sluggish. I'm willing to pay more for the best...what do you recommend?

I've had mine 4 about 6 months now works perfect, but MS has a 3 year warranty. They would send you a new one and you don't even need 2 send the old one back.

Yes, I heard about Razer going out of business just a couple days ago. I can't find the actual reference right now but a couple of people mentioned it on the boards. Would be nice if it was a false rumor, since I was looking forward to seeing what Mamba had to offer.

Xerin, my thoughts exactly. Razer has (or had?) very poor QC with the BS line. I was hoping that the conventional design of the Mamba would make it easier for Razer to keep them in good condition.

I picked up a Logitech Optical Wheel Mouse this weekend and so far it's excellent. My previous mouse was a Logitech Wingman Gaming Mouse. It's a very good mouse as well. I just got extremely tired of having to clean it to keep it in optimal working condition for those competitive games in Q3 and CS. The sensitivity and tracking ability is on par with the BS, without any of the problems that the BS has. Not to mention the loads of cash less it cost than any BS.. it's a "second generation" optical mouse, which means "33% faster" and none of the skipping problem which optical mice are infamous for. I can rocketjump, and bust flickshots any time I want without nary a skip. I can't believe I didn't try an optical mouse sooner, cause this is the bomb. Smoove as silk, and I never have to clean it. One odd thing I did notice, is that when using it on the PS2 port, PS2Rate Plus reports that when set to 200hz, it's moving at 118avg. hz. When set to 100hz, it reported 88avg. hz. Hooking it up to the USB port made it consistently at 120hz. I guess maybe the PS2 port doesn't supply enough power to the mouse?

Anyways, I highly recommend a Logitech optical wheel mouse, or the other optical mouse they sell :)

I love the Logitech MouseMan Wheel optical too. So smooth and reliable, I've never had to clean it in 3 months.

I appreciate everyone's input...even if I get my Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer replaced by Microsoft I think I'll get a Logitech Optical Wheel Mouse. Sounds like it's a great gaming mouse and the low maintenance is a big plus.

i hate optical mice, they seem to get jumpy when moved really fast (like in a q3 battle)

my favorite mouse for a long time was Logitech's MouseMan Wheel BallMouse, but I switched to the Newer Wheel Mouse Optical. They both are contoured to your right hand, but the newer version is slightly more comfortable (because it is thinner). However, I prefered the movement of the old wheel mouse.

On a side note, I've been using a 12 in x 20 in cutting board as my mousepad, and it has worked perfectly with the wheel mouse ball and optical. In fact, I only had to clean the ball mouse twice in the three years that I used it.

Optical mice are the only way to go.

If you like cleaning crap out of your mouse and buying expensive mousepads then get a regular mouse.

If you want to be a gaming GOD get an optical mouse and forget about mousepads and cleaning the crud out of them. I am as serious as cancer.

But I hear Optical mouses suk for "twitch" gamers like me. I don't want my mouse getting sporadic everytime i twitched the mouse to turn quickly. My Logitech Wheel Mouse works fine when on a 200mhz PS/2. I like the shape of the Logitech MouseMan wheel tho. I absolutely hate the Intellimouse Explorer. Too big and clunky, the buttons feel so in accurate, without any strong and defining "click" feeling.

Ive got no problem cleaning the balls of my mouse-optical just doesnt cut it-yet-for me. Heck, if you keep a clean room you dont have to clean the mouse all that often.

That noise about "quick-twitching" and all that is just that, noise. All real gamers have no problem using a better system.

The optical mouse is a superior mouse system and the only people trying to preserve the old-style mouse system is Razor(dead) and hardocp.com selling their mousepads to stupid people(hopefully dead soon too).

The mechanical mouse is completely antiquated. Smart gamers use an Optical mouse. I prefer the MSFT Explorer, my brother digs on the Logitech optical.

Use something else if you want to be pummelled in the Deathmatch.

Maybe I should pretend that my year-old IntelliMouse Explorer stopped working so that M$ can send me a new one with that "33% faster" tracking. Hahahaha....
