Button-down refers to a collar design doesn't it ?

I don't know what a button-up shirt is. And I thought a button down shirt was one that has button down collars.

They're called "button downs" ... and who starts buttoning from the bottom? That is a sure way to end up with crookedly buttoned buttons. If you start at the top and "button down", you'll never button incorrectly :)

The buttoning thing refers to the collar, not the buttons going up/down on the shirt. The collar BUTTONS DOWN...
