Fan?

I use a Chrome Orb and the 80mm fan on the back of the case blows right across it.

Some generic HS and BB fan from a computer show, $10. 5200RPM now, and my T-bird (750@933) is 38C.

A SlotA Golden Orb right now (lol it was cheap and temporary)

Hopefully later this week my CPU and VolcanoII will arrive.

I will probably order a Copper Bottom Taisol eventually when I find a good place to order from.

Alpha PEP66T with delta fan (7000 RPM one...) on a PIII850 on a CUBX.

I had to modify the white casing that support the fan to fit my CUBX...the damn capacitor on the mobo didnt let me use it as prescribed. (was designed to work with the fan on the side, but had to put it on top of the HS).

It took me 1h30 to make it work properly.

Temp dropped 14C with that heatsink but I am sure there is not a perfect contact with the cpu. But it was so hard to clip the HSF on the mobo that I dont want to do it again...

My next modification will be to drill the side of my case to let the delta fan blow air out...it should help my custom config a lot.

Running a Golden Orb on a P3 700 o/c to 933. Current temps are: MB - 28.5C, CPU - 29.5C.

Maybe I am just getting old, but this whole cooling/overclocking thing is starting to escape me. Don't get me wrong - I was right in there with the Celeron 300A @ 450, the Celeron 366 @ 550, the CeleronII 533 at 900 and a whole myriad of fans. However, today if I had to choose between 1GHz and more cooling, or 933MHz and less cooling I'll go with the slow/quiet system everytime. The most retarded thing I have seen recently is a shop here in Toronto that is offering the new Copper heatsink for like $80. For pete's sake - that is basically the difference between the slowest and fastest CPU offerings. Why would someone pay that to overclock when they can pay that as the difference on a new processor.

Like I said, I am getting crusty - it all escapes me.

Short story long.....

Have 1 GHz running at 1.4 GHz.

I had just a $9 Dynaeon HSF. It ran at 60c using CompuNurse thermal probe Super Glued right on die. Not a cheesy external diode. Kid you not. Although an internal diode would be nice...

Switched to ThermoEngine and it WENT UP to 65c!!!

Switched out fan on top of ThermoEngine HS to the fan from the Dynaeon and it went down to 57c.

Replaced that fan with one of those 80 to 60mm adapters from Plycon and it stayed at 57c, but is quieter.

Found out that ThermoEngine has tendency to chip die, put adapter on Dynaeon HS and now I run at 56c.

Thermeltake Golden Orb in one.... POS cooler!

And Intel retail HSF in the other.... surprisingly good.
