POLL: What do you think about getting a Sidekick III just for the data plan?

I'm locked in a contract until next year with CIngular with my RAZR but I was thinking of getting a Tmobile Sidekick III just for the web browsingchat/email capabilities. I figure $30 per month isnt bad. Would this be a smart move? Anyone else do anything like this?

Pretty sure that $30/month is only valid *on top* of a voice plan.

Nope, the voice plan is the optional plan to go with the sidekick. You can sleect the sidekick, accessories, and data plan ONLY at Tmobile.com and it allows you to checkout and purchase.

I highly doubt it works like that. It might checkout like that, but I'd bet you need a phone number attached to it, and here's why.

On my PPC-6700, whenever I open up the IE browser and start utilizing my data plan, my PHONE dials #777 to connect. If there wasn't a phone # programmed in there, it couldn't dial out. Thus, it couldn't access the data plan.

Bottom line: it won't work without a voice plan.

Right now, they have the sidekick 2 on the Tmobile Pay as you go Plan for $1 a day. Purely data, so you may want to check that option out.. not sure if they will include the sidekick 3 when it comes out..

right now, i own a sidekick2 and it has voice plan but i never really use it because i'm deaf and i don't talk on the phone.

but it has a lot of features. aim, yahoo messenger, msn, web browser, games (you can play head-to-head games with other sidekick users), built-in camera with flash, text messages (hold up to 100 messages), address book that can hold up to 2000, calendar with alerts, to do list, notes, calculator and much more.

i'm really satisfied with what sidekick2 offers but i'm not quite satisfied with their signal service.
