I've got the best of it all.

I have a non-existant crime rate. Live in a small town of 6,000 people. Have low housing costs. Low property taxes. Have three ponds to fish in within a three minute walk. But, I still have a big 10 university within a 10 minute drive, a major medical center in the Midwest within 10 minutes, a huge mall within a 5 minute drive, and a metropolitan area of over 300,000 people in a 15 minute drive.

I would have troubles finding a much better area to live in. The climate sucks though. Ass cold winters, butt fscking hot and humid summers.

City. I never want to live in the suburbs again, at least not until I have kids. Weathy, upscale parts of uptown cities is the heart of everything and exactly where I want to be for as long as I live. That is, assuming the city has efficient mass transit, and most larger cities do...at least that I've been to. They all have sh!tty suburban service though.

Personally, the nearest 'staples' or 'best buy' is not of a concern to me. 85% of the stff I order from those places, I get online. A grocery store is only a 7-8 min drive and since it's out of the downtown region, I can drive with no problems. The promixity of school (work, as the case may be) and nightlife is far more important.

^ exactly what he said. same thing 100%. just supplements my point exactly.

Oh, and I can drive 15 miles in under 20 minutes to get to work. That is nice as well.

I say its a toss up between the sticks/boonies and the "burbs". No city for me. Although here in hawaii...the whole state is virtually suburban.
You must mean Oahu . . . Hawaii IS rural.

And I lived in "the Country" on Oahu - North Shore for 8 years. Loved it - the relative ruralness and also the closeness to "Town" (Honolulu) for the clubs.

I live in the city of Chicago. And I love walking everywhere or taking Public Trans. And for stuff its not near...yes it is! I mean if you need staples to get into a hot deal specifically and thats your biggest concern then re-evaluate where you live. But everything I need is near.

I hate the burbs!

I hate the chicago suburbs with a passion! <---- Massive understatement

how do you like that...I live in the NW Chicago suburbs and never wanna live in the city again (lived in Chicago from 88-96, burbs from 96-now). Everything's so open and uncluttered in the burbs

I said burbs but I live in apt. central in Kent County, MI. I'm 5 minutes from 2 malls, major restaurant/retail chains, a strip club :D, and Gerry Ford Airport but deer can be seen on the back side on my complex. I rarely hear planes because the runways are N/S and E/W and I'm located NW of those. I can also be in the sticks in 10 minutes. This place would be the best except for the weather and all these damn republicans.;)
