you are right. when in england and ireland, the bud was MUCH better. Guinness breweries brew bud in Ireland under license. but, still had to drink Guinness and Smithwicks for 99.99999% of the time!

Amstel light is very good. It doesn't taste like a light beer, and I don't know how it's calorie count stacks up to the bottled waters you've listed, but it's tasty enough.

Otherwise, of those you listed, I voted for Michelob Light (but not Golden Draft Light.)

if your looking a for a crisp golden beer try labatt blue
its easy to find and taste better than molson canadian and bud (IMHO)
if you can find sleeman try some of that
their cream ale and honey brown tastes really good and the bottles look real nice

actually the local stuff isn't a micro brew. It's brewed at City Brewery which used to be the big Heileman Brewery, it's the largest independant (ie non Miller, Bud, Coors) brewery in the country. They do a TON of contract brewing for many companies, including Smirnoff, and a lot of foreign companies. They're also brewing some pabst right now.

hehe thanks for the advice guys, I decided to get a single plastic bottle of miller light. I gotta tell ya though, a lot of you guys really sound like "beer elitests" it's actually insulting to American brewery's and workers. American beer isn't nearly as bad as you guys say, and foreign beer isn't nearly as good. God, in England and Ireland they drink beer at room temperature for god's sakes. YUK!

Aaaarggghhh!, no we don't. Why do Americans keep insisting this?

Any lager you will find in Britain is chilled, just like beer in the USA.
Proper beers, like ales and bitters are kept at the temperature of the cellar in the pub which will usually be quite a bit below room temp, but not as cold as a properly chilled beer.
Drinking bitter as cold as lager absolutely ruins it.

he is right ya know. room temperature = celler temp. that is usually 42 degrees. where as most beer in the US is at anywhere from 34-38. i live in the US but spent five weeks in ireland and england and let me tell you, i never drank a room temp beer. and the beer IS much better than the US. trust me.

Well if you're not a beer drinker, go for Miller Lite. I still drink it when I'm just getting drunk. When I feel like a beer I go for pretty much anything but American beer. Negra Modelo is a good one that I saw someone mentioned, I just discovered it a few months ago. I like the Mexican beer for some reason, although tequila makes me puke.

American massmarket beer is flavored water with added alcohol. It's garbage. There are still a few decent beers out there in America, though--Yuengling, Rolling Rock, Sam Adams are a few that come to mind. But most anything from Budweiser, Coors or Anheuser Busch is usually pretty weak. I was impressed to learn that Kirin (a "Japanese" beer is brewed by Anheuser Busch these days. (Side bar--you might actually like Kirin--it's got a very light, sweet flavor, but is a little more complex than most American light beers).
Anyway, if American breweries and brewers are upset by the fact that people who drink beer think an overwhelming majority of their beers are weak at best, maybe that would encourage them to get off their tails and try to make better beer instead of cheap beer. Why take pride in a substandard product?

Here's my opinion of the beers you listed:

Miller Light -- Not bad for a light beer, but does take a little getting used to. Used to hate it with a passion, but now it's not so bad.

Bud Light -- Probably the best of all the light beers. Gotta' love Bud is you're a red-blooded American.

Bud Ice Light -- If you can afford Bud Light, there's no reason to get this. I don't even think I've ever seen Bud Ice Light, but Bud Ice isn't bad for a beer with the word "Ice" in it.

MGD Light -- Again, never had (or seen) MGD Lite, but MGD isn't so bad. Definitely a little better than regular Miller Lite, although probably the same cost. Just a matter of which you like.

Coors Light -- Incredibly overrated if you ask me. Tastes like crap, and the "silver bullet" is a pain in the ass.

Michelob Light -- Never had it.

Some other beers you might want to consider are Icehouse and Natural Bohemian, although they're not light. Good bang for the buck (especially the latter). But don't confuse Natural Bohemian (aka, Natty Bo) with Natural Light, which is disgusting. As a poor college student, I almost always end up with Busch Lite, which runs for about $13.99/30pak and is of tolerable quality. But if you're only going to drink 6, you might as well spring for the $6 for a 6-pack of Corona.

Oh yes, I forgot about Yuengling -- also a fine choice; up there with Corona.

There's something wrong with most American cars but not with American beer. Plenty of good ones out there. Fat Tire and the rest from that company are really good. Samuel Adams is a fine beer. I move around pretty consistently, but my most often drunken beers are Carta Blanca, Dos Equis (both), Miller Lite, and Bass. And by the way, Corona really does taste like piss. I tried them both side by side in a taste test challenge, and I was stumped ;)!

By the way, Ziegenbock is a pretty good beer, but is it true that it is only sold in Texas?
