Poll: Well... just another way consumers have to take it up the arse!

<< How can you escape higher fees? Iowa has the nation?s only ban on ATM surcharges >>

Heh, I knew there was *some* reason I lived here 😀

BTW - I agree it is horsesh!t. My all time MOST HATED "service charge" is from Dick-me-master...err I mean Ticket master.

I buy a $14 ticket and they rape me a $5 convenience fee. WTF???

BUT, the bank saves in the paychecks they have to pay a teller to do the same job, thus saving them money.

I can't believe it would cost more that $.01 to make the transactions.

The ones that get to me:

An 18% tip has been added to your check FOR YOUR CONVIENIENCE. It would be more convenient for me to deciede how much I want to tip for the non-service that seems standard at most of these places.
or
"Are you a guest at this hotel" No, I pay for my room.

thebestmax: most restaurants only put the gratuity on automatically when you have a group of people at the same table. It consumes alot more of the waiter/waitress's valuable time, so if you insist on getting the attention, you have to pay for it. Remember, even a not so good waitress deserves a tip, they dont get paid otherwise.

I bank at Washington Mutual and they don't charge anyone; customers or not. It's pretty nice, they don't charge for a checking account either. I hope more cities/states implement the ban on fees, $2+ is ridiculous.

Interesting... last time I brought this up I practically got flammed for people siding with the banks. Weird. I personally think it sucks and that they make enough money elsewhere. It's not good for consumers when the majority of banks make a trend like this.

Here in Canada the large banks are just rolling in cash yet they charge all these fees. Hello bank it my money here. Why should I pay gobs of money to have access to it.

Actually I have nothing to complain about personally. I got a bank card when they first came out before my bank realized that they where such a cash cow. Now you can not even get the type of bank account that I have. I can make a billion withdrawals a day and it does not cost me a cent. Take that bank.

I only have to pay $1.50 at most of the places around here which isn't too bad for someone that doesn't have any account with the bank's ATM.

Triumph:

That may be an argument with people from different banks, but not when it is your money. I just think it's a bad trend especially since ATMs are cheaper than traditional tellers. Who is to stop them from charging fees for more "services". That's what the article is about... First it was just a small fee... then those kept going up.... now some are adding annual fees... What's next? $5.00 fee for every deposit you make. $2.00 to check your balance (that is a "service&quot😉. That all adds up real quick. And it's not like you have much of a choice. It's not practical for everyone to stop using banks. Also the pattern has been that if one bank starts a fee, then others follow after a while and use the "most other banks do it" excuse.

so dont use them. The bank has every right to charge whatever the hell they want. If you dont like it dont use ATMs or find an ATM card that doesnt charge fee at there own ATM

Not everyone likes to run to the bank to get cash, kcklla.

No new news for me. I pay $15 a year for my debit card, which is free to use (haha free) at all Wells Fargo ATM's. They forgot to deduct the $15 last year though - shh, don't tell my bank.

just carry a few hundred bucks on you.
and have a stash of cash at home.
and a bunch of credit cards.

I never have to use ATM's.

Chase bank lets you use their Debit Card for free, and you can use it for free at any Chase ATM (I have heard they are putting them in Exxon's now?). They have 24 hour drive thru banking at a lot of places throughout DFW. Anyway, you only get charged a fee if the other bank charges you a fee. They do the transaction on their side for free.

cabana, washington mutual aint all that great either. try using other banks ATMs. they charge you $4 for it. which is outrageous. i think recently they upped it to $6.

Where I live there are no charge free ATMs left :frown:. If all the banks in your area start charging high fees for everything, are you just not going to use a bank at all? You effectively have no choice but just throw your money away. That's not right.

take enough money out of the bank when you are there are use a check book, and if none of that works dont spend the money it wont kill you. well most of the time.
