I prefer ESDF as well. Several reasons:

1. Finger mark under F - easy to find.
2. Gives me access to QAZ, as well as shift and ctrl/capslock.
3. Positioned better under number keys. WASD is too left sided, you don't have good access with it to 5+ keys for easy weapon switching, so essentially your response time is limited if you need to access 6 or greater. ESDF is a little better in this regard considering 1/2 are usually puny weapons anyway.

Arrow keys for me. I just like how there are no other keys immediately adjacent to the arrow keys so I don't press the wrong keys while moving.

ESDF. i like having the extra row of keys for my pinky. i have smallish hands but i can still reach the shit and control keys fine. i don't normally use the alt key for anything but if i need it i just cross my thumb under my hand to press it.

i didn't realize so many left-handers actually moused with their left hand! i can do it but it seems weird and i'm a little slower at it.

<---- right-mousing lefty ;)

Yea when I first started playing CS, I used Mouse2 for forward but changed it after a awhile. I forget why now.
WASD makes sense due to all the other keys there (especially 1-5 since they are used to pick weapons) and it's the right distance from your hands to be apart. though I could do w/o the windows key. It has gotten me into trouble quite often in the past. Now it's rare that I click it.

I've never used WASD for movement in any of my games.....just don't care for it. I started with the SpaceOrb 360, then the Panther XL, and now Nostromo 52s D-Pad for movement. I may switch to a precision hall effect sensor small joystick with little dead zone if I can get an ample supple of buttons on base for it. Here is the link for it http://www.chproducts.com/oem/finger_desktop_hfx.html
I still use the mouse for firing as it is very quick but for movement I prefer something else.

Looks like Belkin may have dropped the ball on the 52TE edition when it comes to their Razor software so this hall effect joystick may be worth checking out.

WASD. Easiest way to get to the left side of the keyboard (Shift, Tab, Left Control, Left Alt).

I used to be all about the arrow keys since I have big hands and liked the space around 'em. My general FPS controls were shift - jump, kp ins - crouch, num1 - prev weap, ctrl - alt fire/modifier, then del/home/enter/backspace for whatever I needed. However, with my current (newer) keyboard, the arrows keys are offset a bit lower and it makes me previous set up uncomfortable/impossible so I reverted to getting used to WASD. I can't say I like it any better, but it suffices.

Used to use arrow keys... Now WASD. It was kind of awkward having my left hand across my body right next to my hand with the mouse.

ARROW KEYS VS WASD! ITS ON!

I destroy most people in many games with arrow keys, it works for me, and between my 5 button intellimouse (the old one thats not ergowhateverly designed) i have enough buttons for everything. It worked well for WiC and half life 2 deathmatch, ill never use wasd because w isnt exactly above s, its slightly to the left and ill hit e by accident sometimes. Arrow keys 4 life lol.

I'm close to WASD, but I've replaced the A and D with Q and E; it accommodates the size of my hands more (largish.) At least I think that's it, however I just find it more comfortable. It allows me easier access to the number keys and A/D are still very close.

Here's a more detailed for those who actually give a ####:

shift=jump
space=crouch
WQSE=movement (w=forward, s=backward, q=left strafe, e=right strafe)
A=leftlean/misc
D=right lean/misc

i used to use the arrow keys but then realized that wasd is like 10 times better. the advantage is that your hand is closer to all the other buttons such as r for reloading, etc. while the arrow keys are kinda secluded.

I've switched to WASD in the past year.. it isn't that bad actually. Before, I'd have mine like:

Up: Mouse2
Down: Right Alt
Left: , [<]
Right: . [>]
Crouch: M
Jump: Space
Use: N

and then fill in whatever else with nearby keys..

Yea, it was rather insane but I did really well with it. :p
