Is it really anything you couldn't do with an equalizer? I mean if you had say a 15+ band equalizer you ought to be able to duplicate most of the effects that DFX creates, right? Or does it do something other than enhancing certain portions of the sound spectrum? Having tried it, it certainly does work extremely well, I was perfectly fine with the way my MP3s sounded until I heard them with DFX.

BS, normal MP3s sound a bit dull and flat, they didn't after I used WOW.
 
It's simply a time delay that fundementally destroys the midrange so you can bull all you want. If that type of sound pleases you more power to you! 😀
 
Most people don't keep their tone controls on their stereos at center as well.

Most people use an EQ without a spectrum analyser and pink noise.

My tube preamp doesn't even have tone controls. Matter of fact I bet it's been 20 years since I had one that does. Any tonal alteration introduces distortion and impedes wht the artist was trying to say. Rather like colourizing film.

Sounds no different to me. Is there something I'm missing here? Is there something I need to do to &quot;enable&quot; the plugin after I install it?

Yeah, run the little icon it put on your desktop and select the checkbox. Then open winamp and play a song.

I think it sounds like sh*t. I hate the sound of a cheesy filter on a song. The program makes it sound like I'm in a room with no carpet or windows. That's supposed to sound good? :disgust:

Make sure you're turning of &quot;ambience&quot; as yes it does make it sound terrible. By turning it off, it sounds incredible.

Something interesting, while I was trying DFX, pressing the &quot;bypass&quot; button on the config box resulted in noticably worse sound than with the plug in enabled. However after uninstalling DFX (didn't want to register it, so it had to go) I noticed no decrease in quality from how everything sounded with DFX, makes me wonder about that &quot;bypass&quot; button and if it doesn't somehow disable everything, including the built in Winamp equalizer. Course it could also be just be that I couldn't compare back to back any more. I'll stick with an equalizer, that way I know exactly what I'm changing.

I have the ambience off. It's still terrible...takes out the midrange. Go get the MAD plugin and your ears will thank you. 🙂
 
I did get the MAD plugin, and I must say I'm extremely impressed. I'm surprised that DFX hasn't changed things for you, well at least in a positive respect. On my setup, which again includes a home theatre receiver and home theatre speakers (I don't even use the DAC onboard my soundcard, I use an optical out to my Denon receiver) I did not notice any midrange degradation whatsoever. Combining the MAD plugin and DFX have made my setup sound infinitely times better. I can't believe mp3's sound this good right now.

Yeah, I hooked up my SB Live to my Denon reciever...sooo much better than a pair of PC speakers. 😉

Guess DFX just isn't for me.

Thats the same issue with the old dfx, it seems to degrade sound on purpose when hitting the bypass. Possibly bad ethics, good business.
