"With Medicare and elderly healthcare expenses so high, why can' t retired doctors who no longer want to do a full time schedule see the elderly for minor to moderate problems and only go the hospital when necessary."

Because grandpa will still sue the doctor's ass off if his pill induced stiffy lasts too long. It might work out, if you can get patients to sign a release of some kind.

In the same vein, I'd like to know why a person would have to spend so much on school, if they only perform midwife duties, or suture cuts and the like? Offer two year degrees for simple first aid type care givers. It's one thing if you need a specialist for complicated ailments, but if you just need an abrasion cleaned and dressed, why bother a $600.00/hour doctor to do it?

I am a conservative Doctor IN FAVOR OF UNIVERSAL HEALTH CARE!

But not for the reasons you all have.

call BBD quick, see if he will disagree with me on this just out of priniciple..

I want a 9-5 job with reasonable pay, great benefits, complete protection from liability, and automatic COLA, and good retirement plan.

I have grown weary of increasing malpractice premiums (no end in sight), decreasing payment for services rendered (no end in sight), and a general decline in respect towards physicians.

A Goverment job would promise me a reliable income that would always increase over time, absolute protection from the scum sucking trial lawyers, and respect! in Canada, you don't p!ss of your surgeon, or you go to the end of the waiting list!!

Bring it on all you LIBERALS.....I'M ALL FOR IT! But "it" won't be anything like what you expect "it" to be.....

Oh, now all of a sudden you're not thrilled with out of control runaway "Judicial and Insurance" corrupt system sanctioned by paid Politicians.

"scum sucking trial lawyers"

Interestingly hypocritical comments.

Either you hate all scum or love it all, you can't have it both ways.

HearSurgeon: This is actually quite revealing. I thought that as a plumber (of humans, that is), you might want to elevate the discussion to how a system of Universal Heath Care might benefit the lives of those you have given an oath to serve. Instead, you focus on how this is best for you personally...

Perhaps you'd do well to review your hippocratic oath - I'll give you a small reminder in case you have forgotten it:
  • I will remember that I remain a member of society, with special obligations to all my fellow human beings, those sound of mind and body as well as the infirm.

those releases probably would not be enforceable. if every dr started doing it they would have no liability, and the courts wouldn't like that
