Poll: U and Ur, do they give you the impression you're reading what a child is typing?

I voted yes, but 'younger' is not the only word I automatically associate with them.

Not necessarily. It depends on context really. On aim, who cares. When someone is typing a drawn out, multi-paragraph post though, proper spelling and grammar are required for me to take it seriously (although I suck at grammar and luckily Safari underlines my spelling mistakes).

No, when someone substitutes "u" for "you" or "ur" for "you're"/"your", my conscious estimation of their IQ drops.

Yes, and the more I see it, the more I think some of these dummies probably visualize U and Ur when they are speaking those words.

for me it depends on the context and the other words around it

what r u doing 2nite? != what are u doing tonight?

your poll is ridiculous. without context the question has to be answered yes...as it includes uses in areas where it would be absurd.

the context is that he made the poll as an attack on me... u see, i'm stupid because i use informal language on an OFFTOPIC FORUM. what a moron.

he named himself gurck and chose to be represented by the image of a clown for f*ck sake.

It depends on the situation.
If I'm in a high pressure situation where speed of typing counts (ie: playing a game - which adults play - where teamwork is essential), then shortening words to gain even 1/5th of a second is fine.
If it's general stuff, then yes, it does make me think less, especially on a forum, where speed really isn't important.

Your grammar and spelling is ridiculous. If you're going to use big words like ridiculous you could at least spell it correctly.

Exactly. I've seen plenty of people that are old enough that they should be beyond that crap, but they still do it. It's not age that comes into question... it's definitely their IQ.
