Oh man, you're actually kind of missing out. For all my b|tching I forgot to bring up the good points. When you step into a walmart, its like you're a noble or at the very least a really rich merchant. I never thought of myself as a very handsome man, but as I stroll through the local walmart I think to myself that I am in fact a very good looking man. Perhaps, uncommonly good. Sure I'm balding a bit...but am I sporting a mullet? I'm carrying a bit of christmas weight still...but I have a pair of cut rippling abs as I walk by the man who's bloated stomach just knocked over a rack of DVDs, relatively speaking at least. I rolled out of bed and just threw on the jeans I wore yesterday...and yet I might as well be james fvcking bond in an ever perfect suit as I walk past the guy with a sleeveless faded nascar shirt.

And I'm rich here. My meager money is suddenly a fortune! There are no items out of reach available for this endowed sultan. This lamp? Oh, $20..."why get two!" I say to my super model wife. "And fill out basket will beef jerky!"

Yes, its good to be king in walmart land. Good indeed.

Rude people who dont know how to drive or park in the parking lot (which is typically littered with dirty diapers and soda bottles). People crawling all over each other as they maneuver various tight aisles. Little kids taking toys out of packages and scattering them all over the place. Absolute weirdos who think they are on television or something acting out every single moment dramatically and loudly. And of course your assorted shirtless, shoeless lowlifes and other sorts of ne'er do wells.

But I did manage to find the keyboard I was looking for which unfortunately had to be returned, requiring yet another trip to the 'zoo'.

Whats your typical experience?

sounds like the typical experience at Walmart. I've lived in about a half dozen cities. One thing you can count on whereever you go is the walmart experience
Always lower class...Always

First, how could it ever take anyone 20 minutes to find a parking space ANYWHERE? Or do you mean you drive around until you find a close parking space? I usually find a space in about 2 minutes anywhere I go but that's because I choose an aisle and park at the first available space even if its 2 miles away 😛

Anyway, one thing I hate about Wal-Mart, and I suppose this isn't WM specific, is that if you're going to have 10 lanes dedicated to self checkout then FREAKING HAVE THE LANES OPEN 24 HOURS A DAY. Pay one person to sit at the monitoring station for the 10 lanes and pay one person to sit at the cigarette check out. It is stupid that those lanes are just sitting there unused while I wait in line for an hour.

I'll do everything I can to avoid going to Walmart. I'll even pay the higher prices (or get a pricematch) somewhere else.

Walmart is the only store in my area that has the items that I want for sale. All department stores in my area have closed down, as well as all but a few grocery stores. The grocery stores that are open have about 10% higher prices (on average) than walmart and do not have the selection. So, I shop at WalMart, its not that bad.

Hmmm...are you making a point about Wal-mart's aggresive business practices? I'm on the fence about that.

If I go, I go to the "rich people's" walmart a few minutes from my home. The average home within a 3 mile radius of that walmart is about $250,000.

Not the stereotypical Walmart shopper that many envision. Brand new store, isles are huge, and a very nice grocery selection.

For the most part I still shop at the locally owned grocery store right down the street, but if I need the oddball stuff like cheap tools & painting supplies I'll head to Wally world.

Typical house within 3 miles of my nearest Walmart prices at $500,000K+. It's still a skid mark with a parking lot. The other walmart in the area is even worse. And it gets worse still as one goes towards the city.

I hate WalMart as well. I refuse to go there unless I have tried EVERYWHERE else. All they sell is crap. There is a reason for their products being so cheap...... Its cause they will break and you will need to buy another one and spend more money. You get what you pay for.

Because a sony dvd player at walmart is more likely to break than its identical counterpart at best buy that costs 70% more?

Gotta love your logic.

Oh and the milk I bought at walmart hasnt broken yet, or the food... weird, I wonder if the milk was refurbished 😛

I understand your point. Lots of the products you can buy at wal mart are the exact same as other places, but may cost less (some things do, some things don't).

I guess for me, cost isn't everything (not that it?s not important). If I want to buy product X, and it costs $80 at Wal-Mart, $90 at Target, there is a good chance I'll buy it at Target. Wal Mart is always chaos, loud, rude customers, apathetic employees, long lines, headache of a parking lot. The additional cost is worth it to me. There is a limit of course, but I've found that a lot of things I buy at Target, Kroger, etc. aren't really that much cheaper at Wal Mart, so it's an easy choice. The example I gave here is a ~13% difference, which is an extreme. I would say 5% less at Wal Mart is more typical, which isn?t worth it to me.

The exception in your ghetto isnt the rule, unfortunately.

Brand New Walmart 1 mile from my house

Clean everywhere
Spacious lanes
Cheapest prices in town
Excellent food/item selection
Nice parking
"Rudest" employees I've ever came across are the cashiers that talk to much

Only thing I hate is the self-checkout machines are noticably slower then those at meijers

The town I live in isn't high class but it sounds like most of you live in questionable neighborhoods

I think thats one of several points being made. Neighborhoods play a role, but not the primary role.

I dont live in a ghetto, and I would surmise most people here dont either. Neer do wells penetrate all socioeconomic classes at some level or another. Rich shoeloess shirtless slobs who are allergic to soap and water do exist! Especially in the under 20 crowd.

That being said, Ive been to WMs from Philladelpha to Scottsale, DFW, San Diego, and everywhere in between and its almost always the same thing give or take an exception or two. 🙂

Wait until that store isn't brand new and see how much it's changed... even a store hawking fecal matter is at it's cleanest when brand new.

Actually in a way, yes. It has been posted before here and in P&N, but the products you buy at Wal-Mart are not 'Identical' to what you would buy at another store. This is most prevalent with the clothing lines. For instance, a pair of Levi jeans purchased at Wal-Mart are not the same quality as those purchased at say.......Costco. Wal-Mart is so large that it dictates to the manufacturer how to make their products, and it always chooses the cheapist solution I.E. lower quality fabrics, lower quality capacitors in electronics, etc.

i go tto the one in long island, and pretty much every store in long island is clean and nice

It's like going to the freak show.
bought 2 garbage cans last time I was there and the fvcking exit nazis hassled me for 25 minutes. 2 empty fvcking plastic garbage cans and the fvcktards that guard the doors couldn't figure out that they were empty! The only reason I went there was that I had a gift card that I needed to use. I won't go back there again if I can help it. I guess their real problem was the fact that I didn't look like a damn inbred trailer dwelling non-showering scum-bag, so obviously the well dressed guy with 2 empty garbage cans must be trying to steal some of their cheap assed shlt. wall-marts are for the Britney Spears of the world.

The patrons at your Walmart are a reflection of your neighbors and neighborhood, NOT Walmart. Whatsamatta? Don't like looking in a mirror?

If that's the case, then why do none of the shenanigans occur at the Target right down the road? I understand that it's not Walmart that encourages the acivity, but I've never seen anyone taking a dump in the aisle at Target. I've never seen adults eating spaghettie with their hands, then wiping their hands on the clothes at Target.

The only thing I can guess is the lower socioeconomic classes believe Target is more like Macy's? So they avoid it like the plague
