POLL: Typical Wal Mart experience?

In the last four years, I've only been to Walmart twice.. both times to buy stuff for campus organizations. We run on a budget, even so we avoid Walmart when we can.

I don't mind wal mart. The only things I don't buy are most perishable groceries there. I'm afraid that people are putting perishables back in the food section after people randomly leave it around. I've been in the sports sections and seen frozen pizzas stuffed on the shelf by people who decide to not buy it. Disgusting.

Dont really like it, dont really hate it. Going there however does make me feel better about myself seeing some of the low lifes that congregate there

I despise Wal-Mart. It is a complete monopoly in our town. The put up release dates for games and they may be in a couple of weeks later. The workers are all incompetant and they are constantly moving things in the store so you have to browse for half an hour to find a bottle of shampoo.

Having worked at Kmart for the last 5 years, my opinion is biased to begin with, but going in the local Walmart, it's always a disaster. The store was very large, the product selection was nice, but the long lines at the many registers, rude employees, and the overall zoo-like atmosphere drove me away.

-=bmacd=-

It's not the customers I have a problem with, it's the fvcking worthless employees. I went to a mardigras party this weekend so I needed plastic beads. I asked Jewelry where to go, they told me toys. I looked high and low in toys and they told me to go to arts/crafts. Arts/crafts told me to go back to toys and the manager I grabbed told me to go to stationary. One hour of my life wasted later, I still had no fvcking mardigras beads. :|

If I go, I go to the "rich people's" walmart a few minutes from my home. The average home within a 3 mile radius of that walmart is about $250,000.

Not the stereotypical Walmart shopper that many envision. Brand new store, isles are huge, and a very nice grocery selection.

For the most part I still shop at the locally owned grocery store right down the street, but if I need the oddball stuff like cheap tools & painting supplies I'll head to Wally world.

Hey OP, have you considered that your Walmart might just be in a crummy neighborhood?? Possibly considered trying another one, even if it's further away?? We had a K-mart like that here, that always looked like crap, and usually had the inbreds shopping there, and I'd go there maybe twice a year, when I knew they were the only place in town that carried what I needed. Luckily, that was one of the stores that closed down during their restructuring.

As far as the "everything you buy there will break" attitude, does that include the free weight plates I get at my local Walmart? Man, I was hoping the steel they used for those plates was better quality than that!!

Let's face it, there's those that have no problem shopping at Wally-world, and then there's some that wouldn't be caught dead there. I knew a fella once that would only shop at Macy's, mostly because he thought he looked better carrying a Macy's shopping bag through the mall, versus a JC Penney or Sears bag!! And that's their right, if they're bound and determined to spend twice as much as they have to, to get what they want. I do get a kick out of someone that has a $200 watch for doing "dirty" activities, though. Even if you don't realize it, bud, you're an elitist. But that's your choice, and I'm proud to say that in America, you've got the freedom to make choices like that. 😀

In the meantime, I'll be wearing my Wrangler jeans, with my Hanes pocket-T, and telling the time on my $50 Timex watch, all the while glad that you and yours aren't clogging up the aisles in my local Super-Wallyworld. Oh yeah, and I did shower and shave before I went there, just in case I ran into you! 😉

Because a sony dvd player at walmart is more likely to break than its identical counterpart at best buy that costs 70% more?

Gotta love your logic.

Oh and the milk I bought at walmart hasnt broken yet, or the food... weird, I wonder if the milk was refurbished 😛

QFT. Although Walmart does make those dorky Bratz dolls😛

I've found that you need to talk to the person stocking the shelves to find obscure items.

Also, to comment on the OP's observation. I think the location of the Wal-Mart has a lot to do with its clientele. All of the Wal-Marts that I've been to were in fairly affluent suburban areas, and I've not seen "your assorted shirtless, shoeless lowlifes and other sorts of ne'er do wells."

I went to wal mart the other day and had a typical wal mart experience. Rude people who dont know how to drive or park in the parking lot (which is typically littered with dirty diapers and soda bottles). People crawling all over each other as they maneuver various tight aisles. Little kids taking toys out of packages and scattering them all over the place. Absolute weirdos who think they are on television or something acting out every single moment dramatically and loudly. And of course your assorted shirtless, shoeless lowlifes and other sorts of ne'er do wells.

But I did manage to find the keyboard I was looking for which unfortunately had to be returned, requiring yet another trip to the 'zoo'.

Whats your typical experience?

Bahahahahaha Enjoy as Wally World will be the only store in America

2-8-2006Wal-Mart to Open 1,500 New Stores in U.S.

John Menzer, the company's vice chairman and head of its domestic Wal-Mart stores division, said Wal-Mart was on schedule to meet an announced target

Menzer did not specify a timeline for the new stores. He also did not refer to zoning and permit fights that have erupted in some places where Wal-Mart wants to expand, including big markets such as California where the company has fewer locations than in its traditional bases in the South and Midwest.

"We are really focused on opening new stores right now. We see so many opportunities to open new stores that that's where our capital is going first," Menzer said during a Web cast from a financial conference hosted by Citigroup in Miami.

Wal-Mart opened 69 new stores and Sam's Clubs in January, a company record for one month, it announced last week.

Oh, and zoo = Any major retail store the day after thanksgiving.

:disgust: They don't mean "zoo" as in "busy," they're implying that the people there belong in the zoo because they dress and behave like slobs, which is true.

I only go there if they have something I know I need. SO it's usually get in, get the item, get out. Neither good nor bad.

I may be an elitist but I'm not ashamed of it. But that does not mean I am rude or disrespectful to those beneath to me. If I was truly better than them, I would have the virtue to be able to adapt to any enviroment and treat any sort of people in a respectful manner, by being able to see things from their perspective.

I hate WalMart. I won't go there unless I need something *NOW* and it's 3am in the morning.

I feel the same way, Wal-Mart is for emergency purchases only, something I absolutely need RIGHT NOW and would not be able to get anywhere else. Otherwise I'd rather drive farther and spend more to shop somewhere else. My local WallyWorld isn't really all that bad compared to some others I've seen, as Wal-Marts go it's not nearly as ghetto as average. It still sucks though.

One time people there gave me the worng change. When i said you owe me $3 the lady looked at me like i was crazy . The manger had to come and get me my missing 3 dollars some people cant count.

I love Wal-Mart. There is just something about going in there and being able to find ANYTHING you want, all in one place that is so cool.

I can get food, beer, tires, toys, tampons and video games, all in one place.

My closest Wal-Mart is in a pretty nice area, so we don't get all the hooligans you speak of.

the wal-mart near me is the nicest store in the area. It(usually) has shorter lines and cheaper prices. Not to mention its usually cleaner (unless you go after midnight).

The Target has less people but the lines are not any shorter. the isles are cramped and not stocked very well.

there are 2 real grocer stores in town but the prices are way more expensive. but they have a far wider selection so we go about once a month.

the only store as nice to go to is Farm & Fleet. its a huge store with wide isles that are always well stocked and usually has short lines.

you don't shop at walmart for teh "experience"

its about cheap stuff made in china by political prisoners
