POLL: Tofu?

I think its pretty good. I like it raw by itself or prepared in numerous ways (stir fried, dried, etc). And it's good for you too. It's like the magic food 🙂

What I do is I take it out of the package, plop it down on a plate, slather it in soy paste, and go at it with a spoon. It's mmm mmm good.

I have pretty bad allergic reactions to large amounts of nonfermented soy.

Lots of other people get harmful effects from nonfermented soy. It isn't a great health food for many people.

its fine.

It all depends on what you cook it with...

The idea is its suppose to taste like whatever you cook it with

Miso soup for instance..taste yummy

Me too

Marinate it in sesame oil, soy sauce, ume plum vinegar, then stir fry it with vegetables and serve with rice. Very good.

Tofu's just pretty homogeneous, light-tasting protein. It may be the closest thing to "food goo" that you can get at the grocery store without hitting the SlimFast stuff. I think it's good but I can't just dig in with a fork. Tofu's an ingredient to me, not so much a food... although I can take some big chunks of it in a spicy soup or something with flavor.

I didn't like tofu until I decided that it was just too healthy and I could fix that. Take your extra-firm tofu, and press it (light pressure over time to reduce the moisture content). Slice it -- experiment with the thickness for your preference. Then deep-fry in peanut oil, and drizzle with a sauce made from some of the frying oil, hot thai red pepper paste, honey and chunky peanut butter. Again, experiment for your favorite proportions. Sprinkle with sesame seeds. It's like regular tofu without the healthy!

Soft tofu makes my smoothies happy, as well. I've also had some success with faux-chocolate silk pie (link at RecipeGal ) . If you have friends who need to watch cholesterol, it's a nice party pie (although not quite the same as regular silk pies).

I heard it isn't as good for you as you may think. I personally like real stuff, not tofu look-alikes 😉

Proof?

I haven't read this yet, so consider the source.

Claims that soy reduces testosterone levels and can cause birth defects.

Yeah, and that it can cause problems with both girls and boys in puberty. It puts emphasis on nonfermented soy. It says moderate amounts of fermented soy is okay.

Scary if true considering we're putting soy in so much food, infant formulas, school lunches.
