Repost ;)

Ill say it again though, for some reason replay TV appeals to me more than Tivo, but tivo's future looks better than replay tv. Plus, if you have Directv you can get a reciver with tivo built into it.

I used to be a ReplayTV fanboy (and still am).

However since we tried the DirecTV, it freakin' rocks and is only $5/mo in addition to the DirecTV subscription.

If you don't have DirecTV, I'd check out a ReplayTV.

Def. Tivo!

I've owned both, and the Tivo is the better of the two, IMO!

DirecTivo.

The DirecTV receiver and TIVO unit are in one box - hence there is no MPEG conversion between the two. This is the only PVR that does this.

The DirecTIVO unit makes a PERFECT recording of the satellite signal. Best digital recording, period. Downside, no network capabilies - yet.

Of course, you have to have satellite...

ReplayTV + DVArchive > Tivo if DirecTV is not part of the equation.

I love my replayTV.

Tivo. ReplayTV used to have the edge with networking and commercial advance, but Tivo has always had the better software, interface, and remote. I always thought commercial advance was silly selling point, because who cares if you just have to press FF for 2 seconds to FF through commercials with the Tivo. And now that Tivo offers the HMO, there's really no reason to go with ReplayTV.

I owned both, and IMO, Replay had the far superior user interface. In fact I also owned an UltimateTv and I prefered that to tivo as well.

The only big advantage that Tivo has is it's "go out and randomly record crap for me" features. This is actually pretty nice. There are a handful of shows that I have scheduled, which it always records..and then another 10-15 shows I've given a "thumbs up" and it will record them when it has time and assign them the lowest priority on the delete list. HOWEVER - that feature is worthless until you have an 80+ gig hard drive in there.

DirecTivo is very good, but I still miss my ultimateTv. It was much nicer to use.

Frankly I can't figure out how the average joe can stand the tivo interface. For me the replay/ultimate was very intuitive and quick to navigate. I'm constantly getting pissed off at my tivo for one reason or another.

I also prefer ReplayTV's user interface, it's not as cumbersome as Tivo's is.

However the QUALITY of the shows on my DirecTIVO cannot be distinguished from live TV, it's just far superior to ReplayTV.

I also miss ReplayTV's 30 second skip button.

You're sh!tting me, I tried searching but can't find the thread.

Do you have it bookmarked or know what search criteria to use?

Tivo all the way. ReplayTV has some good haqer features but the interface sucks and ReplayTV is a f*cked company.

On the DirecTivo, yes - it will be a higher picture quality, because the signal does not undergo an analog->digital conversion. The original satellite bitstream is saved directly to the hard drive, therefore the quality you see for recorded shows is exactly the same as the quality that came from DirecTV.

For the record, the UltimateTv (not sure if these are completely defunct now or what) did the same thing, and has an interface very similar to Replay. Unfortunately, 1) I'm not sure you can still buy an UltimateTv, 2) The monthly fee is $10 a month, and 3) it does not do any of the predictive recording.

While you are watching a recorded show, press SELECT - PLAY - SELECT - 3 - 0 - SELECT. Your skip to end button is now a 30 second skip ahead button.

The ReplayTV's progressive component video output is clearly superior to the TiVo's output on any reasonable quality HDTV.
