scary movies I've seen:

- event horizon - I'm gonna quote futurmatic on this because it's the same for me: "Event horizon fvcked me up for 3 days, but it wasn't so much that it was scary... it was more like disturbing" except that I found it scary too.

- halloween and h20 - weird...the murder scenes were somewhat intense. but I didn't like it because it's basically guy gets fvcked in head, kills, never dies (except in h20...or maybe he'll resurrect somehow) so the plot was very unimaginative compared to event horizon or silence of the lamb.

- scream - eh..sorta scary but it's just mostly stupid. also not creative.

- silence of the lamb - a classic. very weird. very disturbing. very gruesome.

- the green mile - good movie overall...but it's disgusting and horrifying to think about 2 little girls being raped and killed. plus, the burnt corpse was stomach churning to look at.

that's all I can think of. and no way in hell is anybody ever going to get me to watch the exorcist.

I don't really get scares by movies. I laughed more at The Exorcist than anything else. The closest to a scary movie I've ever seen was Event Horizon, I have to say it made me uneasy the first time I saw it.

It's kinda funny how I read this thread while I watch a special on "exorcisms" on the History Channel... Ironic? Or sign? =)

What's even funnier, is how they showed this recreation of a young boy being exorcised, and how he jabs a crucifix into the forehead of a preist... Made me chuckle a bit....

I think suspense, more than outright action, can be just as scary. In this regard, many of Hitchcock's films are masterpieces. Rear Window is a good example.

Although I must admit, that damn Alien bursting out of the guy's chest made me do a double-take ...

My dad took me and a friend to see the Exorcist when it first came out. At the part where she spins her head in a 360 some lady in the theater started freaking out...screaming and flailing about in her seat. Two ushers had to carry her out (still freaking out). My dad asked me and my friend if we wanted to stay for the rest of the flic. I remember neither of us could speak, we were just staring at the door.
My dad, "Ok, get your coats. We're going home."
Nobody spoke on the way home and I slept with the lights on for weeks.

Now remember, this was 20-odd years ago. The Blob spooked me too, but with monster movies once the movie was over the scariness was over. But the Exorcist stayed with me for a long time.

I don't think I've ever been scared by a movie since. The closest I came to being scared was while watching The Day After. And I think it was more pissed/depressed that I came away with than fear.

I'm a lot older now, and to be honest, I don't think I'll ever be scared by a movie ever again. And even though my experience with the Exorcist was far from entertaining at the time, I envy anyone who gets to experience watching it for the first time.

Everything they showed on "The Outer Limits" and on "Chiller Theater" when I was a kid.

I haven't paid to watch a scary movie since "Carrie".

"IT" by stephen king...

i never really liked clowns before the movie, now i dislike them even more
