Getting there is the easy part. Establishing a colony on another planet is a whole different level of engineering.

The second coming of God.

When will it be? 10 years? 100? One trillion?

I don't know when, but that's my vote.

Compared to the dinosours and stuff we're just a dot on the timeline huh. I suppose we could be wiped out and even overlooked in the history of the planet.

We will come to a point in our existance where earth can no longer support our people. Medical advancment will continue and less people will die. Peoples youthfulness last longer, and so less people will be born. Our increasing rate will decrease. This will continue until it levels off. Well, you cant live forever so people will die. Those that are left will be old and die at a faster rate, beign that they have reached the end of their most unnatural lives. Now that people are dieing faster then they are reproduced... the population decreases. This will continue until there are a very small ammount of people. Assume those die because of some enviromental or whatever occurance. If they dont, they will more likly then not repopulate the earth.

I doubt overlooked, considering the damage we have caused. Just a thought.

Dude, totally, sooner or later we're all going to run out of food due to ever increasing populations, or better microbes and viruses will proliferate and kill us all.

well, if you look at how life works, a virus/bacteria will never (ok, i really shouldn't say that) completely destroy a species. Why? Because it isn't in their interest, if the host dies, well, they die too. HIV, on the other hand, is a perfect example of the 'perfect' virus. It infects via a necessary action of the host, it takes years for the disease to proliferate and in that time, it can spread. Scary stuff.

I personally believe, man (as we know it - the greed, caring up to a point, selfish) will die eventually. Might even be in our lifetimes.. maybe a few generations down the track. Hopefully, a new breed of humans who put the whole infront of the self comes out soon, all we're all doomed!!!

I reckon that humans will survive and prosper for a very long time. My therory, quite possibly contraversial, is that one day when man begins to delve a bit too far into the universe another technologically superior race is going to look at us and decide they don't like us very much.

Since man is relatively new to an almost infinite universe it stands to reason there must be other races that have been established and evolving for FAR longer than we have (Im talking thousands of years). And since humans by nature (especially if America stay in power, lol...) arent too friendly to outsiders and a naturally war-like race, in my opinion it stands to reason there will be a big difference in either cultures or perspective that will force us into a confrontation sooner or later.

Obviously this is looking pretty far into the future, but to be honest I dont think man will destroy himself and I think he'll survive any natural disasters on the planet for a long while. :)

Judging from the bloodlust I see here, the chances death by war, be it by engineered plague, or some other means is likely.

When the interplanetary Orkin Squad finally pays a visit to Earth and decides to put the smack down on all the human cockroaches.

i have no doubt that there could be a plague that modern medicine can't do much about. but i also have no doubt that a small number of ppl would survive and repopulate the earth.

Depends...

If humans can get established in space before the Asteroid hits, then Humans will live forever....... If not, then that will be the end.

I voted for Humans will live forever only because I feel humans will be in space before that Asteroid hits, thus will not go extinct.....

I did not even consider the other choices because the chance of an Asteroid impact compared to the earth exploding is far greater, and no 1 disease will be able to wipe out the entire human race before it is stopped, and Judgement day is hmmmmm no comment

What about earth being conquered by giant man eating space bugs from outerspace riding on a giant asteroid filled with nuclear weapons and sent by God? Where's that option?

And how do they leave themselves behind? It ought to be obvious that humans are inherently a brutal species who enjoy killing each other. Removing ourselves to space does nothing to alter that fact.

"enjoy killing each other"??

hmm. do you enjoy killing people? does any member of your family enjoy killing people? does anyone you work with enjoy killing people??

the fact that some people see the necessity for war, you extrapolate that too everyone?? and claim that everyone enjoy's killing people??

Other then the Human Race will live on ;) That was the question to begin with after all. .. I could care less if Humans are brutal, if they get into space, then they live on, no matter what happens to the Earth.

I think overall, not 1 way, which is on one planet. Look at it this way. 80 years ago a man would have thought you was a nut for saying humans can go into space, now humans live in space 24/7. Imagine what will be up in space in like 200 years. I can't even begin to imagine.....

You choose to ignore context so I will explain some things I would have thought obvious.

Not everyone wants to kill. I never said everyone does. Would you please highlight where I did? Thank you. The potential for violence is there though. If you were a direct threat to my family, then I could kill you. You would do the same.

I have known my share of those who do enjoy it though. You would be meat on the plate in the right circumstances.

"The fact that some people see the necessity for war..." Now that is very interesting. "the necessity for war" Why is war ever necessary? Because there are people with the means and desire to foster circumstances that make someone else say that war is necessary. Forget about causes. Shooting someone for any reason is killing them. The fact that you justify it does not alter that fact. When humans fought with fists and clubs, the total damage a group of individuals could do was limited. Now as technology widen the opportunity for destruction, a handfull of people can wipe out whole cities. In fifty years, it would not be so hard to imagine a group of dedicated fanatics who believe that the planet be better off without people. They create an organism which is virulent and deadly and incurable. They can infect themselves and others. While remote populations might survive, the majority of the people of the earth could be wiped out. Even that is not true, because there may not be such a thing as "remote" in that time. The will to do this is out there. We are still as agressive as the Crusaders, the Nazis, the soldiers that forced the Trail of Tears on some of my ancestors. Yes, people will do this, and they will rally around a banner or cause and celebrate the victory. They have reached the objective and wiped part of the population out to do that. You and I are savages. I accept the fact. Think you are above it all? You are not. You are just less reluctant than those who would do what I describe. It only takes a handfull of people with the will and means, and no war is going to eliminate human nature. There IS no solution to this.
