We all know that for some people, working well under pressure is no problem - however for others, cracking under pressure isn't unusual.

In which case, there comes many times in one's life when he/she has to work under pressure, there's no doubt about that. Most of the time he/she would do well, other times, he/she wouldn't do so hot... however, there is always one time... the best time... when he/she just rises to the occassion and becomes Godly... performing the task under pressure valiantly.

The best recurrance that I have of the scenario would have to had come from the movie SWORDFISH

Spoiler

Where ace-hacker greatly deciphers the code to a government website while a gun is held to his head, and a head held to his other head ;)

Nonethess.. his performance was nothing less of impressive...

Well, it's my turn to state my tale... and perhaps the best thing that I've done under pressure would have to be writing a term paper in 30 minutes.

I had forgotten all about it (big time slacker that I am) and was reminded of it that day at school... so after my Economics class, I quickly geared myself over to the library and typed up my paper.. w/o time to proof read, I was about to churn out a 5 page essay w/ having it slashed in half due to the "late-penalty"

Although frailing in comparison to the scenario in the movie I just described... I was very impressed with myself for finishing up the paper, and receiving an 'A' for it! GG's got some game ;)

Anyways, gotta, jet, respond below :D

hmmm... probably finals or projects, i've never been in a situation i've risked more than my academic acheivement under pressure i don't think. i take online classes to earn extra units between my regular classes, and i always wait until the very last moment to get things in.

once on a thursday i was walking to class when someone from my philosophy class (that would start in an hour) ran by me and stopped to say hi. asked if i was done with the paper, i just told him i was going to do it later after class and turn it in tomm- when i THOUGHT it was due. apparently i wasn't there when she moved the date forward a day- personal reasons. i ran all the way home and wrote up a 7-8pg analysis on plato's works in that hour. showed up a couple minutes late for class, huffing like i had half a lung. got an A- on it a week later, i prolly would have failed the class without it ;)

I was working on a group project for a class, and my other group members were all lazy SOB's, and I had to take all the research (about 800 pages worth of stuff) and throw it into SPSS and get some usable data, then write a 40 page paper on the data, and did all the work in one weekend for the paper that was due Monday. I told the teacher too, and I got an A, and everyone else in my group failed.

I once defused a bomb about 4 seconds before it blew, saving an entire shopping mall of children.

Hm... I can think of two things ::

Last season, my volleyball team had a very very close match. We lost the first game, won the second 16-14, and was tied 10-10 in the third game. It was my turn to serve, and I served up 4 aces. Eventually, we won that game 16-14 and won the match. That was a close one.

Another time, I had a computer program given out about 3 weeks before it was due. I did it the night before it was due and still got an A;)

Hehe...if we are talking about programming assignements here...there have been numerous times in college where I have procrastinated till the night before it was due and pulled an all nighter to get the project done.

skoorb - Wow, are you for real? :)

Nice job, I feel as if you were under the most pressure of everybody here so far. Your life was in danger and a huge amount of human beings were at your helm...

Glad you pulled through - how did it feel? :D

Hmmm...best thing's i've done under pressure

Did a 1=year science project in 3 days and was named the Unofficial Slacker/Procrastinator of PBHS Science Research.

Wrote an 8 page report in 1 1/2 hours about U.S. foreign policy from the Monroe doctrine to FDR without previous studying, and got an A...

I made some late financing trades out in 15 seconds before the Fed Wire went down and saved my company at least $50,000 if not more. It's actually a pretty regular occurance, my job has incredibly high pressure. 1 mistake and you can be out millions of dollars.

Playing a game of 8 ball. I had one ball and the 8 left to win the game. I was supposed to have a straight shot at the middle pocket but the guy was able to block my shot with his ball. So I hit a perfect masse, sunk my ball in the middle, and was able to use the spin to position perfectly for shot on the 8 and win the game. Everybody's jaw just dropped after I hit the masse.

Another time we were playing ball behind the line instead of ball in hand. The guy purposely scratches because the 8 was behind the line, thought it'd be impossible for me to make any shot with all the balls he still had on the table. I made a triple bank shot (the diamond for those who play) to win that one, the dude was seriously pissed about that one.

I've done a ton of in-class period projects well if I have like 10 minutes left. Most the time nothing below a 85% or something.
