I never swallow gum but i was thinking about it earlier today. Is there really any reason why you shouldnt swallow it?

I remember in elementary school kids said that it would stay in your stomach for 8 years
obviously not true, but is there any reason not to swallow it?

It stays stuck in your colon and the more gum you swallow the more it will build up and you will no longer be able to go to the bathroom.

Cure. commit suicide.

What happens if I swallow my gum?
A lot of people have the wrong idea about what happens if you swallow a piece of chewing gum, so we're glad to set the record straight! Chewing gum has five basic ingredients - sweeteners, corn syrup, softeners, flavors and gum base (the part that puts the "chew" in chewing gum). The first four ingredients are soluble, meaning they dissolve in your mouth as you chew. Gum base doesn't. And although it isn't meant to be swallowed, if it is, it simply passes through your system, just like popcorn or any other form of roughage. This normally takes only a few days.

If you swallow your gum, you'll end up with a gum tree growing out of your belly button.

Spit or swallow? Is it really that bad to swallow gum?

File this one away in the Old Wives' Tale folder. It does not, in fact, take you seven years to digest gum if you accidentally swallow it, says Chicago-based gastroenterology expert Charles Baum, M.D. According to Baum, any gum that does somehow end up in your stomach should pass through in less than a day's time--undigested. But, while swallowing gum is generally considered safe, chewing gum is another story. Sure, an occasional stick is fine, but chew it all the time and you may be in for trouble. "Chewing gum too often can lead to tooth decay and problems with the jaw's joints," cautions Baum. And Baum adds that sugar-free gum, while better than sweetened gum, contains artificial sweeteners, which can give some people serious diarrhea and gas. Now that blows.

Swallowing gum causes stomach cancer. Having stomach cancer is very painful.
