I wear glasses, and am generally considered smart/intelligent. Just curious what % of the people posting on these boards wear glasses. I'm assuming most posters are at least of average or greater intelligence, being interested enough in a technical subject (computer tech) to converse about it regularly.

I wonder what's behind the mystery of people with better than average intelligence often needing glasses. I realize this isn't science, but it is a stereotype that holds true for many people, and has been around for ages.

Edit: To clarify, "corrective lenses" would also include contacts as well as glasses.

I wear glasses and look really young for my age, so everyone assumes I'm some Doogie Howser type.

Im nearsighted.

Been wearing "reading" glasses since 4th grade, but started wearing them full time when I turned 15.

I tryed contacts a few years ago, but my allergies hated them.

I wear glass's.

Shortsighted.

I wear contacts when I go out sometimes.

People wonder why don't they fall off when I do flips and summersaults and such....

Nope, sorry. Although I assume I'll be wearing glasses soon enough, judging by the amount of time I spend in front of this God-forsaken monitor.

Wait until you been around here for awhile. You'll soon find out how wrong the above statement is. :D

Oh back to the subject. I wear glasses to drive only.

Nope. Never have needed glasses.

Although now that I'm 36 it's getting increasingly hard to focus on items that are close to my face. But that's normal for a person with good eyesight as they age.

Maybe it's one of those pieces of trivia that gets erroneously cited as fact, but I have heard that there actually is a correlation between above-average IQ and myopia.

I don't wear actual prescription glasses. I do have a fake pair though that I wear every now and then. Regular plastic lenses in Nautica prescription frames :p

No, but knowing that it's myopic and hyperopia, respectively, gets you closer :)

I wear glasses, although I really only need to wear them when I'm driving or trying to read the board during class, I keep them on so I have less of a chance of losing them. :)

I wear contacts all day. In fact, I don't think I even know where a pair of glasses are. So, while my eyes are terrible, you will never see me in glasses. I have enough grade school pictures with huge glasses (seriously, half my face) to scare me off of glasses forever. The only good thing about glasses was getting to wear the Horace Grant esque-goggles during basketball games. When someone shows up in those and not in regular glasses, you know he means business.

It's not just nerds. At a recent gathering of friends between myself and my fiancee... there were 18 of us. It was brought up that only 3 (including me) don't need glasses or contacts. In retrospect, only 4 of us are in IT or deal with computers more than usual. Come to think of it - my family has good eyesight.

Yeah...I wear glasses....I sometimes hate it when people assume you're just hella smart. All they do is leech off of you for the duration of the class and would tell you to fuvk off after it is said and done.
