I have heard people talking about spicy foods as being good for some kind of stomach aches by killing whatever is in your stomach or "clearing out your system".

Do you think this is the case?

the acids in your stomach are stronger than anything in spicy foods, it shouldn't make a difference other than a placebo effect

It wouldn't kill bacteria or anything, but I know a plate of Curry clears me out regardless of my prior stomach condition.

If anything, spicy foods give me a stomach ache.

when I have a stomach ache, I just pop 3 rolaids and wait ... heh

Giving up coke solved my stomach acid issues. That stuff is insanely acidic.

I have heard the same thing and even tested it. I have no links but here is my personal observation.

If I have heartburn, spicy food doesn't help. When I have a "sour stomach" (not heartburn but felt like I was going to hurl constantly) I eat spicy and it fixes it. I have heard that it is because sour stomachs have somethign to do with your system underproducing stomach acid and isn't disolving the food that is in there. The capsacian (sp) suposedly increases acid production.

Spicy foods increase the production of gastric secretions. As gastric secretions increase, so does the concentration of H+ ions which can lead to heartburn, gastritis, gastric ulcers, and peptic acid disease.
