I have my Internet gateway running on a very small slow server which currently has 80megs 70ns simms, P233MMX, Win2k Pro, on a Tyan Tomcat III Intel HX chipset.

My question is this, I have a 64meg stick of PC133 memory and a Super 7 board sitting around. What kind of performance can I expect if I were to switch the cpu out and overclock it to 262MHz with the 64megs of PC133 versus a P233 running 80megs of 70ns simms?

I know Win2k needs more than 64megs of memory (I'm running 384megs in my primary machine), but that is all I have available at the moment.

Would the speed of the PC133 overrule the extra 16megs of simms?

Thanks guys!

Honestly, I think it will run slower. Any performance increase you get from the OC will most likely be negated by the swapping that will be done with the HD.

Is there a reason why you don't want to run windows 98se or ME with ICS to free up some resources (since you're using it solely as a gateway anyway)?

Security. I've found through running several networks at work, that Win98 can always be penetrated. Win2k on the other hand has been rock solid.
