Why should this surprise anybody? Many posters here on this forum advocate letting their government torture, tap their citizens phones and search their houses without warrants, hold people prisoner without the right of habeas corpus, invade nations on false pretexts, and want to respond with a scorched earth policy if their invasions are met by resistance. With so many wanna-be fascists right here on this message board, why should we be surprised there are still a few in Germany?

Quite fucking true.

Quite fucking reading comprehension challenged.

Fixed.

Of course there were some positives to come out of that regime - they'd not have maintained political power in their early years if it were not so. Hell, there were even a whole bunch of positive things to come out of the war itself.

The means do not justify the end, and the end does not justify the means. Not that you're saying any of it was ever justified by whatever good events or advancements were brought out of it.

We could have done fine in our social and technological advances all on our own without the war or nazis, or saddam, or bush. Whatever negative that brought us said positives, was never necessary. The "good things" would have happened without them.

Nobody asked if the advances were worth it. Merely if National Socialism had "good sides (such as) the construction of the highway system, the elimination of unemployment, the low criminality rate (and) the encouragement of the family."

The answer to the question is yes.

Because of the Nazis? Pretty much. Eisenhower, during WWII, say the German interstate system and realized the benefit it would bring to the USA. Sop, yeah we copied the Nazis.

😛

Great Depression- Infrastructure Nope, pre-dates WWII and the concept/push for the interstate system copied from the Nazis
Dust Bowl- Modern soil conservation practices

They should have asked "Given that some good (infrastructure etc) came out of Nazi rule, do you support what they did?"

I bet that would have a different response.

Otherwise, I agree with most everybody, the poll and is sensational, and bogus.

I look at this differently than some people here. To say 'some good' came from the Nazis would be like saying some good came from the Great Depression because milk prices were lower.
You have to consider the price that was paid. Otherwise you could say some good came from killing your neighbor. You now have a better parking spot.

That's specious reasoning. It is not a straight cause and effect situation like your examples, negative events can have positive aspects unrelated to what made the events bad. Milk prices were lower in the Great Depression because nobody had any money...your neighbor's parking spot is free because you killed him. The Nazi's didn't build highways because they were going to invade Europe and kill a bunch of people. There was no price paid, the Nazis could have built roads without turning into evil racist warmongers.

What good did Nazi's create?

More effective killing machines?

Improved Racism and Segregations?

Took Hate to new levels?

Developed the concept of a master race?

Built work camps (Death Camps) to develop jobs for Jews?

Dont see much good in all that? It did not improve life for Germans much. America improved life in Germany more than the Nazi's did. The Klu Klux Klan was an improvement over Nazi's.

uh, no. eisenhower's experience with the Highway system compared to the Autobahn led him to the Interstate system. the Highway system still blows.

edit: is bringing up bush in a thread about hitler the inverse of godwin's law?

The Nazi's caused their entire country to be destroyed. Obviously the Audoban was built after the Nazi's.

This does not mean that Germany has not created some very good engineering. It is too bad that Hitler used it all to try to take over Europe and build U-boats to sink allied shipping, and build a very good and effective Air Force. In the End it was the Americans and the English that ruled the air and the seas.

Meglomaniacs attempting to take over the world do us all very little good. No reason to mimic this brand of insanity.

Some of our best rocket scientists like Vann Braun were German Engineers. How odd the world is.

obviously not. the first autobahn was completed in the mid 30's.

also our freeway system was adopted from the germans. the blue star highway had to have so many miles that were straight to be used as emergency runways in case of war with the Russians.

Lets take this thread beyond mere recent history and outrageous political spin, to where it belongs which is deep within human psychology. Within us all is this intellectual comfort and laziness that says father knows best, don't trouble your pretty little head about it, and just follow the leader. In fact, Psychology measures this trait on things like the F scale on the MMPI.

Yet when it come to leadership, we can't keep saying father knows best, because father got old and died. So someone has to be the new father for the new conditions. And quite frankly come up with a brand new policy based on the authority of the old. A contradiction in terms for an authoritarian. So the new leader must some how think for themselves while invoking past authority.

At the same time, in any society you have that group, for a lack of a better term, of liberal thinkers, who from the very gut, are convinced that father was full of shit and we desperately need a totally clean sheet of paper to redefine society domestic and foreign.

Within every human mind, the forces of fascism and liberalism are constantly battling. The somewhat myth is that a fascist society must be always war like and a liberal society will always be pacifistic.

To clarify- During the Depression, many roads, state parks, bridges were built by public work crews to give some people a job. That does not mean that the Depression was "good" but some good things happened. Was building roads, parks etc bad? Not at all.

Likewise, I could see the Nazi's doing similar things, like the Autobahn. Does that mean "yippie for the Nazi's!" No. Someone asking a question which sounds like "Can you think of anything good that happened during the Nazi years" might answer "Yes" That in no way means they support what was done as a whole.

Obviously there was good there. Germany was in a bad way before the rise of the party. That doesn't mean they didn't do very bad things as well, only that there was definite good accomplished.

It's probably really more like 75% of Germans see good in Nazi rule. The far-right is strong in Germany.

We've been waiting for you 😛

My heart skipped a beat when I saw this thread! 😀

I was wondering how long would it take for you to post here... I was getting kinda worried... seriously! 😛
