Poll: Should we merge all lawsuit threads

Should we merge all of the Apple lawsuit threads into one thread?

  • We should leave things as they are

  • We should merge all Apple lawsuit threads into one thread

  • We should merge all lawsuits into one thread - not just Apple

  • We should ban all lawsuit threads altogether. Let's just talk about mobile devices.

Per RedStorm's suggestion, I have a poll. Should we merge all of the Apple lawsuit threads into one thread, and should your moderators (TheStu and I) lock or merge all other threads into that one thread.

So what happens when the one patent thread inevitably gets locked as many patent-themed threads in the past have tended to do on this forum?

:p

All in one since it's all the same players suing each other.

Not all in one. We need like 4. Apple. MS. Moto. All others.

Still kind of a mess. Where does a story about Apple suing Motorola or MS suing B&N go as in both cases there's overlap. Also, given that it can take months before any individual lawsuit is even close to being resolved, it could lead to a lot of discontinuity in the thread.

On further thought, I don't even know how much of a difference this will make as it doesn't guarantee that people will generate other content. At most it keeps a few other threads around a while longer, but if people aren't interested in them anyways they'll still end up falling off the first page after a few days.

I don't understand why people feel the need to post about lawsuits.
Companies sue each other all of the time.
Every single one of the companies discussed in this section has a mountain of lawsuits against them or have filed lawsuits against other companies.

The entire discussion is somewhat pointless.
They have just turned into hating one one company or another for really no reason.

Yes, Apple sues other companies to protect their intellectual property, but so does Motorola, HTC, Samsung, Google, Sony, Panasonic, Microsoft, Western Digital, HP, Logitech, ect.

These lawsuits really have nothing to do with mobile devices or gadgets.

Leave things just the way they are.

I want to read a specific thread to find out about each particular lawsuit/patent in question and not having to dig through 20+ pages of "an official lawsuit" thread.

Why not a forum dedicated to Legal Issues?

There are already too many sub-forums on Anandtech.
A sub-forum dedicated to "legal" issues is one that I will not visit.

The only problem is when people create new threads for a lawsuit that already has a thread. I think we should keep all the threads separate.

We should ban all lawsuit threads altogether. Let's just talk about mobile devices.

The threads rarely have any interesting information, are usually made just to bash one side or the other and, as a lawyer, I can confirm that most people have no clue what they are talking about anyway.

I'm fine the way things are. If it doesn't interest me, I don't click on the thread. There are not a large number of threads generated here to begin with.

It seems it's the same half dozen or so companies suing each other in different countries. Different variation on the same theme, just stick them all in one thread and call it a day.

While I get a little tired of the lawsuit threads; I think each lawsuit needs to be evaluated on its own merit :)

As suggested above perhaps a sub-forum would be the more appropriate solution ?

I think most can be merged into one thread, however ones that are specific to say Apple (the iPad trademark dispute for example) should simply be moved to the Apple subforum.

A sub forum for patents, financial results and personal stock portfolios would be nice. That way, rich people won't get annoyed by talking to mere commoners.
