Actually I dislike spam, but I don't see why some people get so worked up over it. I get a ton of crap in my postal mailbox as well and I actually have to carry it inside and throw it away. Spam I just delete. I don't think spam should be illegal because I don't like the idea of trying restrict what people can email. I could probably go for some regulation forcing valid opt-out links or something .

Comcast does a really good job of filtering it... I NEVER get spam on my ComCast address... the only people I've given the address to are friends, and places like AnandTech and Newegg and eBay who don't abuse their mailing lists.

Yahoo is a different story though... although their filtering does a pretty good job. AOL is still by far the worst.

Legislation isn't going to stop spam.

Most companies that advertise through spam have to do business in the U.S. Either they are physically located here or incorporated here. If the legislation targets the company that gets the cash (not the server or ISP), legislation could be effective.

Right... for example, if I go to PCWorld.com and get a popup for that Casino crap... PCWorld.com should be fined. I think maybe a $10 per hit on thier site would be quite the deterrant.

*EDIT* Let them put advertisements IN their site... but not pop ups that interrupt what you're doing... that's just as annoying as some guy coming to my door selling meat out of the back of his El Camino.

Ads that flash crazy colour patterns and dialogue boxes that jump around like a jackrabbit on heroin should be outlawed. The same goes for ANY ad with sound. I should sue for hearing damage and trauma! I cannot even surf safely from some of the NLE worksatans. Sometimes the master level will be at WOT and a stupid ad comes up and brings 20,000W worth of really efficient horns to life! :| Never again. All the servers that host them should be DDOS'd.

Those ones that flash and stuff can be a health risk to those with epilepsy (is that the correct disorder/disease?)... just like video games have a warning about that.
