Where's the option for "Spam should be illegal, but Pop Ups (although a nuisance) are okay"?

SPAM:
They should be legal, but there should be severe restrictions. And disobeying the restrictions should be illegal and carry very stiff penalties.

Examples of restrictions: Don't sell addresses, must have a valid opt out reply address, must obey the opt out requests, etc.

But I only get ~1 spam a month so it really doesn't bother me. I had to do a lot of opt outs to reach this low level, but it eventually worked. Sadly opting out should work immediately.

Pop-ups:
Pop-ups are annoying, but I just avoid sites that have them. If all consumers did this, the websites would lose all their customers and stop selling pop-up ads.

i dont really mind any of it, its costing the people who send it out money, and most of the time nobody bites on their ad's, so its their loss

Spam is bad and should be illegal (good luck enforcing that). Popups, though annoying, are a necessary evil.

I think spam should be regulated, possibly by just forcing email adverts to have "Adv:" in the subject and have them automaticly deleted/moved to a seperate folder. Anothr possibility would be to have to add the sender of an email to a list before you can receive email from them, and just reject the rest of the emails.

And...

Why the hell do you people complain so much about ads/popups? Sure pop-ups can be annoying if theres more then 1, but do you know it costs money to run a website?

If you don't like the ads on a website, then don't visit it. If a regular website has 1 popup, and you block it, your essentially screwing the webmaster out of money while leeching their content/bandwith.

How can you guys possible compain about the ads on these very forums? I'll say it again, if you don't like the ads, then don't visit the site.

If you didn't notice, I keep refering to 1 (mono, uno) popup, because I agree more then that is just annoying in my mind. But, the webmasters have a right to do it and if you don't like it don't visit the site.

By the way, this is coming from a webdeveloper, so my view is differnt then the average web surfer.

I don't mind pop-ups that you can just close... what I hate are the ones that you close and they come back, and you close and they come back, and the only way to get rid of them is to reboot the computer. Even ending the task doesn't work, it just comes right back. I hope the next version of IE does something to prevent that.

Alt F4 works wonders for fighting that. A lot of pop ups reload themselves if you close it by using the 'x' button with your mouse. And others keep opening things so by the time you can accurately move the mouse to the 'x' you've already loaded several other pop-ups. But Alt F4 is very fast... Faster than you can download the popups.

Spam should be illegal. I am simply that tired of seeing emails that have nothing to do with me in my mailbox. It has gotten to the point of rediculousness.

Popups... those couldn't be illegal because you would be basically telling people what they can and cannot do with their websites. I just want a wicked smart program, that knows what I'm thinking and only blocks the popups that I don't want and lets through the ones that I do. Oh how I wish that program existed... For the time, popup stopper does the job pretty well (although I have to disable it whenever I want to actually see a popup).

Spam should, just like the do not call list.

Pop-ups no, this is how companies make their money. Plus, as long as it isn't danish animal porn pop-ups, it just requires a few extra clicks of the mouse.

You could make spam punishible by death and they'll just move to offshore servers in countries that don't care.

Legislation isn't going to stop spam.
