POLL: Should polygamy be legalized?

Given that it's totally legal to have unmarried relations with an arbitrary number of partners at a time, it seems a little funny that married relations wouldn't be legal.

On the other hand, most polygamists one hears about tend to be pretty creepy guys; hanging out in the boonies and swapping 12 year olds with one another. Not Good.

Out of curiosity, why would you vote yet?

(I am married to one woman and that's plenty, if you get what I mean...)
 
i just watched a special on polygamy a few days ago and it became really disturbing with the men who molested their daughters and thought nothing of it.

yeap thats where the momon sect in idaho got introuble. they were kicking out the young men so they wouldnt take the yougn women.

one guy had 3 wifes under 18 and he was 40.

If all partys consent and all are of legal age, then who am I to say that it should be against the law. It isn't hurting me.
 
it makes as much sense as homosexual marriage

if 2 men or 2 woman can get married, then 3 men and 2 woman or any combination you want to come up with should be legal also


and why not include some animals? after all a large part of americans think animals are better than people , so how about 3 woman, 1 man and a couple of goats get married? why not? anything should be legal, whatever feels good and makes you happy should be ok.

Not to mention the cost of providing for one woman, let alone MANY, + children.

Keep in mind that this opinion is coming from a MORMON, no less. 😉

Well, sure, animals are fine by me... as long as they can demonstrate that they understand the concept of marriage and can sign the documents.

Depends who you ask.

But you would have to assume that the feminism camp would not let straight-up polygyny fly. I bet most guys would be less cavalier about it knowing that they'd be subject to having to share one woman.

Anyone that wants one wife is crazy, anyone that wants more than one is certifiably insane. That being said yes, polygamy should be legal. Just think of the incredibly entertaining 3, 4 or 5-way divorces that could arise.
 
Wouldn't bother me, but the details would have to be worked out. For instance, insurance companies offer health insurance at family rates. That's generally one or two spouses and one or more children. Would they have to offer the same rate to three adults in a relationship? If an employer offers free/subsidized health insurance to an employee and his family, would the employer be obligated to subsidize health insurance for as many wives as a person choses to marry? The tax implications would be complicated as well.

Those are the main reasons I see AGAINST allowing polygamy.

WTF?! How is two people falling in love the same as any of those? Anyway, polygamy was outlawed because it usually meant slavery for the women who were "married" to their husband.

I don't see why not, provided legislation were passed to ensure people didn't do it solely for tax / financial purposes. Who am I to tell others what to do, so long as it doesn't affect others adversely? Too bad others don't agree, and instead prefer playing god.

As far as the poster crying about morality above; I see no problem with marriages of more than two people, again providing legislation were passed to give precedents to the legal issues which might arise from it and giving polygamists no unfair financial advantages or disadvantages. However, since animals cannot tell us whether they consent to something or not, I don't feel it would be appropriate to legislate bestiality.
