Poll: should microsoft bundle visio and project into office pro?

I think so...

the only reason they don't now is so that they can charge an additional $500 each for visio and project. however, I bet more enterprises would purchase more office pro licenses if those two products are bundled....I know I would.

I think windows, windows server, iis, sql server, exchange server, SMS server, office, publisher, visio, visual studio, all 3 age of empires, firewall & antivirus should all come bundled all on 1 DVD. and it should all come free with my computer.

You sure enterprise Visio and Project are $500 a pop? I don't think they are that high at all...we have a 4000-5000 employee enterprise though.

Not that many people use visio and even less use p roject in a typical enterprise, its probably cheaper for the enterprise to pay for individual licesences for those two

What are Visio and Project anyway? Back in the day I had an (ahem) version of Office 2003 that had them on the disc, but never did find out what they were for.

Visio is for flow diagrams.
Project is for organizing tasks.

Both have freeware counterparts which are just as powerful but not as easy to use thus i could care less except for the fact my boss uses project and no one else in the office has it yet so no one can see his workplan except when he wants to show us it :-/

That being said i think they should at LEAST bundle viewers for those two apps, or some easy way to import their data into excel/access/word

Project is a way of scheduling/planning work loads.
Assign timeline to phases and allocate resources.

Visio ?

Anyway, I know I can get Visio and Project for free. I cannot get Office for free. I can get it at a deep discount, but not free. So no, do not bundle them.

Visio & Project are not $500 apiece.

With open licensing I think they're around $100.

Been a while since I priced them, I know one is in that range & I think both are.

Yep. Visio and Project are also very small, and very new. As is OneNote (which, I think, IS bundled with pro). Not much dev cost to recover, and you can't rape them because they aren't already using it en masse.

it would not cost 1K to bundle it...

word 2003 retail - $200
excel 2003 retail - $200
powerpoint 2003 retail - $160
Access 2003 retail - $200
outlook 2003 retail - $100
publisher 2003 retail - $160

add it all up individually and you get $1020, but when you buy office 2003 pro retail package, which contains all the software mentioned, you pay $470.

So:

visio 2003 pro retail - $400
project 2003 standard retail - $500

I would say make the entire bundle $699 retail, and I would buy. not to mention open license will probably only be $600-$650 each license. If you buy 1000 or more licenses, you're probably only looking at $550 per license.

I'm talking about retail price here, not educational or non-profit pricing, which only include a small population...
