Poll: should I upgrade from 24" to 30" LCD monitor?

Yikes :Q. Saw that link too. Why in the world would Dell remove the S-Video and composite outputs? They had it in the 2405pfw, why not keep it in the 30-incher?

maybe their thinking is that the screen's native res. isn't supported by those inputs. It's too high.

Which sux for people getting this monitor because they won't be able to enjoy it to the fullest.

I know right now I have 2405 connected to my main comp via dvi.

it has a vga cable ready for my laptop whenever I work from home.

the s-video has a vcr hooked up to it.

and the component is hooked up to my xbox now.

I know I won't be able to do that with the new monitor, another reason why it's a "no" for me.

i think it would cost higher than the TV as the LCD TV has a lower resolution than the computer LCD

but if you check the LCD tv pricing now, they're much higher than regular LCDS.

For example, a 19" LCD TV costs $699 while the monitor only costs $429

I would say $1,000 for this monitor may become a reality due to the nature of Dell's aggressive pricing on their LCD's.

either way, I bet it drives down the price of 2405, which can't be a bad thing, I might pick up another one

Also, does anyone know if this new monitor has the ability to rotate to legal format like the 2405?

I can't find any literature that indicates this.

yes, you should upgrade.
Keep the 24inch for dual monitor support.
I recommend mounting it directly above the 30 inch. It would look really cool.

Because a 19" LCD is 1280x1024, which for one thing is the same res as 17" screens, and for another is 5:4. 5:4 is an aspect ratio for pvssies.

they need to start making 19in 1600x1200 pannels, or 17in WS ones that do 1920x1200, if they can make a 15.4in lappy do it they sure as hell can make a 17in LCD do it

most 19inch CRTS run 1600x1200 at 75hz or greater ..... though personally ... I prefer a bigger display.

19 inches is just too small.
I don't use a 19 inch TV for my home theatre so I'm not gonna use a 19 inch monitor either.

I'm looking for LCD TVs that are 1080p, but the smallest is 37". The largest monitor with 1080p is about 24". I need something in between.

we have two mac 30" displays here - they are probably the best peices of computer hardware I have ever worked on - as soon as I can afford it I'll buy a 30" or bigger display of my own. It truly must be experienced to be appreciated.

Er, no. I have a 30" Apple and watch a LOT of HD on it, and it looks amazing. Yeah, the res. of the monitor is higher then HD, but it still looks incredible, even from a couple feet away.

If you have the money, by ALL MEANS, upgrade. I used to use a 20" Dell, and went to the Apple, and the change was amazing.

Your 9600XT does NOT have Dual-Link DVI. I can promise you that. THe only 9600XT that has DDL came out a few months ago and costed $200 (about 2x its value) because it works in both Macs and PC's. Right now, the entire 7800 line, as well as some of the X1*00 line has DDL, as well as pretty much all workstation cards.

man, all my mac grfx designers whine to me about those 30" lcd's

they don't realize that IT manager can't just pull those out of thin air. there is something called a budgeting process.

But if you ask me, I would get them those LCD's just to play with them myself
