You might have to start moving your head around to see different parts of the screen

I am told the 7800 NV cards and the 1800 ATi cards have dual link DVI.

No longer do you need a Quadro to run 2560x1600.

Interesting. The link shows one of those "video game" images like on graphics cards, but how many games are going to be compatible with such an insane resolution? I'm saving up for a new rig with Dell's 24", but if it only means a few more weeks of pay to get the 30", I may make the sacrifice.
I'd buy it if it had one of those stock images of a half-naked woman render, but alas it is a monster thing fighting some guy.

If you need to move back because the display is too big, then you really dont need a bigger monitor. Same with TV.
Sure a 60" looks bigger than a 36", but if you have to sit across the room just to enjoy it then you really arent getting any benefit. (Aside from a higher electricity bill.)

There is also a Mac/PC cross-compatible card now, it may do the job...

In fact it does!

ok, I found these pages, it gives us a lot of info. Dell 3007wfp info link

based on all the pics and specs, I am now leaning heavily towards NOT getting this monitor.

1. it won't look right with my monitor stand
2. most likely, i will need to buy a new vid card
3. I hate the new built-in stand, it does not have the cable management option like the 2405
4. it does not have nearly as much connections as the 2405

therefore, so far, the answer is no

you might be right...

Yeah, if you're already moving your head around, a 30" at that distance is only going to make it worse. So you'd have to move it back to get the same viewing angle so it wouldn't really look any bigger, but you'd have more resolution.

If you're after more resolution and think you can deal with text being smaller etc, then it might be a good idea... but if you're doing it just to get something bigger, then it might not be the best idea.

That monitor and card would make a sweet HTPC.

I wonder if both DVI ports on it are dual-link capable.

I have the 24" LCD 2404FPW now, and as you can see, it's sitting on top of an ALLSOP monitor stand.

Width wise, it fits perfectly with the stand. If I upgrade to the 30", I fear it won't look as plush.

Should I upgrade?

edit: all you need to know about the monitor here

Yes, but first, you need to sell me your monitor!
