POLL! should i sell my mushkin 3500 level 2?

i cant get this crap over 225 FSB, even with relaxed timings. yes yes, i know that it is only garunteed for stock speeds, but this stuff is supposed to be renowned for overclocking but it wont budge even with voltage increase and relaxed timings. i looked on ebay and people are getting at LEAST $250 for a gig of this stuff. now, should i sell it and buy a gig of pc-4400 so i could OC my athlon64 like crazy and run my RAM 1:1? and if i do decide to sell this mushkin stuff on ebay, should i say in my auction that i cant get it over 225? or should i just say that i do not garuntee it for anything besides stock speeds? if i do that, am i being deceptive?

also, are all mushkin 3500 level 2 chips BH5? how do i tell if it is BH5 chips without taking off the heatspreaders?
 
Yeah if you can sell this stuff for $250, then upgrading to PC4400 shouldnt cost you too much.

However you should keep in mind that memory bandwidth does little for an A64 system:

You could always get Crucial Ballistix since they are $123 per 512mb on Newegg right now and they'll run DDR500 at 2.5-2-2

I think you have to realize that the memory you have might not overclock for you (your PSU, your motherboard, motherboard bios, etc). This doesnt mean others wont have better luck with it. Also you can say you've never attempted overclocking and got this ram as a present and want to buy cheaper ram and use the money for something else. This take away any questions they might have for you. At the same time don't feel bad since this ram can probably overclock better on an Intel setup or another setup with different components.
 
that article is only using slight differences in RAM speed. 20 or 30mhz. i would jump from 225 all the way to 280ish, and that does not include how far i will be able to overclock the new ram. also, in that test are the different memory speeds being run at different ratios, or are they the same ratio with just different CPU clocks?

In 1 case they have 10x multiplier + 250HTT = 2500mhz cpu and 1:1 ratio (so 250 HTT and 250mhz ram or DDR500 effective)

In the 2nd case they have 9x multiplier + 278 HTT = 2500mhz and 5:3 ratio (so 278 HTT and 228mhz ram)

I am saying maybe you'll be able to bring some more performance since 280mhz ram is another 20mhz on top of 250. But consider 30mhz on top of 228 did nothing, it's questionable how much another 30mhz will bring (1-2% improvement?)

I bet a system will actually run faster if you have 2-2-2-5 225mhz and 278HTT than having 280HTT and 280mhz memory at 3-3-3-8.

Link seem to suggest that memory bandwidth might play a bigger role for dual-channel socket 939 just like it did for nforce 2 and P4 dual-channel boards.

No, as long as it can run at default speed your not being deceptive, when ever I buy ram I'm always hoping for more speed but bottom line is if it does default speed you can't complain.

I'm not sure the level2 is Bh5 I think the level one is more likely to be. Let me know if yours is bh5 because mine might be as well.




 
I say sell it. The PC3500 Level II is the BH5 chips, I bought mine for $280 a year ago, then sold it on ebay for $380 a few months later when the BH5 supply dried up and memory prices were thru the roof. There's plenty of memory nowadays that do PC3200 and more at 2-2-2.
