OK well here's the deal.
Yesterday I thought these people were out of there f***ing minds.

But today over lunch a bunch of got together and had a presentation from a guy at the Jump Zone north of town.....

And I'm thinking about going....never done anything quite so nutty before, but hey...why not right?

So here's the deal, it's from 3000 feet, and the instructor throws out your pilot 'chute right away, so you don't free fall. Just chute down calmly.

The landing was gentle...and statistically it's extremely safe.

Only 1 or 2 of the thousands he jumps each year have a primary 'chute failure, and in all the years he's been there he's never seen a reserve fail.

So.....what do you think should I do it? Or leave it for the crazy people?

Might be fun if you like that sort of things. Heights scare the piss out of me though....... how much per jump btw?

If you don't do it, can I have your plane ticket? :)

I've been wanting to do that for years now, just haven't got around to it. Once the other half is out of school and money isn't quite so tight, I might join a jump club if there is one in the area.

hell yeah!!!!! :)

the first time i went i was feeling like a wuss as well cos the girls seemed all excited and eager but i was feeling a bit reserved :p
but we went all the way up to 11000 feet and the instructor made me jump off myself (great story to tell ur kids.. hehe)
Free fall for almost 20 seconds (i think) before he pulled the chute.

Yes, i was riding tandem but the excitement was really really worth the money.

<< Heights scare the piss out of me though....... >>

Actually me to...and the presenter said that he is to, he can't bungy jump, and he's jumped out of a plane over 900 times, heights don't mean much when you are that high.

<< how much per jump btw? >>

Training course + 1 jump is $100, Training course + 5 jumps was $200 or $250 (he couldn't remember, he's an instructor not an accountant ;)) and on the 6th jump they'll let you go all the way up and do free fall :)

I think it was $150 or $180 for a tandem first jump, which is when you go all the way up and do the fulll free fall strapped to an instructor (very brief training course, but you pay for the instructor's time)

Canadian prices BTW.

Just remember that when you jump, that little helmet is wearing you for protection, not the other way around. ;)

lol yeah I couldn't figure out what the point of the helmet is...seriously even from 3000 feet if your 'chute doesn't open that helmet isn't going to help you.

And if your chute does open you land on your feet...sooo....

Noriaki,

it depends, The first few jumps make your 'device' shrink & their 'accessories' migrate to your abdomen, after that they go back to normal....

The helment is for: if you do not have chute control when on the ground & get pulled into a roll, as from an unexpected wind gust.

Go for it ! & there is always a shortage of organ donors with nice young healthy body parts.

PS: stay the hell away from power lines, lakes, interstates & trees.

The day I jump out of a perfectly good airplane is the day someone must shoot me in the head.

YES GO SKYDIVE!!!!!! It was sooo cool when i went. trust me you'll get the thrill of your life and get a VIDEO TOO!!!!!!!!!! I jumped in Taft near Bakersfield here in California, and jumped out of a plane at 11k feet. it was sooo beautiful before i jumped because i can see the San Andres Fault that has been breaking Cal for the last couple years. you have no idea how big this fault is. It looked miles wide! it was kind of scary, but all that went away when the guy told me "1 more minute until we jump" my heart was racing my mind was running. i was thinking to myself "this is it!, im actually going to do it"

then the guy opened the door and this cold wind gushed in and at this point i was terrified! i was ready to die! i was hanging from the plane and in 3-2-1 WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE i was dropping at 300 ft per second laughing my ASSSSSSSSSSS off. (i dont know why)

it was a really cool experience, i recommed everyone do it in their life.!!!!!!!

there must be this one gene in your body that you have to have to want to do this... and i am missing it... :)
