Poll: Should English be Earth's official language?

Im not proposing doing away with Earth's diverse languages. What Im proposing is one language be spoken by all peoples in order to bring us together. Since the majority of the most industrialized nations already speak English, should every other country be required to teach it to their citizens? I think so.

We can then all hold hands, sing Kumbaya, and everyday will be just like rainbows and lolipops. 🙂

Maybe in a 1000 years when we're all drugged into being peace-loving emotionless zombies. 😛

The day we do create a world government, say once we finally get people living in a colony somewhere not on Earth, then it should definitely be English.

Isn't Chinese spoken by more than English?

Yes more people in the world speak Mandarin. So you better start studying FelixDeKat.

But do they?
Sure, more people speak Mandarin as their first language, but do more people speak Mandarin than speak English?

depends. a lot of mandarin speakers speak "english", but whether that qualifies is questionable.

I speak English.

So yes. English should be the world's official language. Anyone who does not comply should be fined, with the proceeds sent to me.

All of Europe, some of Russia, some of Asia speak English, the US however, don't.

Heh, well that is because of our influence (i'm a Scotsman from birth) so yeah, blame me.

For once it's not "blame Canada" but i'm sure they had something to do with it, the sneaky bastards. 😉

English isn't even all that great. Too complicated.

Compared to what?

To be fair : If you aren't a native born speaker idioms will drive you up the wall. You can even speak english as your primary language and the different idiom usage in even say the UK and the US can be confusing.

Still better than Chinese probably.

We should all just speak binary.
