Poll: Should Eminem be removed as a Grammy Nominee?

Dedpuhl

Lifer
Eminem is up for 4 Grammys this year. There is a LOT of fire, especially from G.L.A.D.D., that he should not get a Grammy. What do you think?

Even if you don't like Rap, does he deserve to be taken out of contention because his lyrics are "bad"? He is praised for his ability to mix words and he does sell a lot of records.

No, he shouldn't be removed as a Grammy nominee. After all, the Grammys are laughable and he should fit right in.

I dont like rap, and hcen I dont like his music, but he's better than BSB and crap like that, at least he writes and sings himself.

As for his lyrics, who cares, if they bother people so much why do they listen, let him sing whatever he wants, within certain boundries that is, if he started singing about killing the president and nazi stuff, that would another matter.

But the stuff I've heard, who cares.

I dont think he deserves any awards though, but somehow I doubt I'd aprove of any of the nominees.

His nomination alone speaks volumes of the credibility of the grammy awards in the first place. The other artists should do the boycotting.

This should be the end of the grammy awards. It will take a miricle for anyone to take this award ceromony seriously anymore.

I don't think his nomination should be taken away. The grammy's haven't known what they are doing for years anyway.

<<This should be the end of the grammy awards. It will take a miricle for anyone to take this award ceromony seriously anymore.>>

What ANYMORE?

And no, to answer the poll.

Eminem and the Grammys are made for each other. Ha - even he made fun of the Grammys in his own music... but whats the bet he'll be right up there accepting the award and thanking an endless stream of producers, Dr. Dre, agents, the people at such-and-such a label...

😕

Ok, once and for all, entertainment and expression do not necessarily make eminem a bad person. Whether you like him or not, he's entertaining to the people who buy his records. I can point to violence, rape, sex, drugs, and basically any other 'terrible' thing in lots of movies and other music that surrounds us everyday. I don't understand why eminem is singled out as being the epitome of bad.

If you don't like his music, don't listen. But no one here has the right to say that someone should be silenced, regardless of what they are saying.

I know there will be replies stating there are limits on free speech, and this is true, but eminem's music is not forced on you. Don't like it? Don't listen, but understand that other's do like it and will listen.

The biggest question that hasn't been answered is why do people listen to this kind of music? Why was eminem's CD the second best selling album of the year? Don't say shock value, because believe me, there is worse stuff out there that doesn't sell half as much. I just put together a hard core metal website for a customer who sells a music magazine. Some of the stuff I saw and read while putting it together was 1000 times worse than anything on the Marshall Mathers LP, yet none of these groups will ever sell anywhere near what eminem does. Why?

The answer is he's talented and is apparently speaking to a large portion of the population who can relate to him, that to me is scarier than the lyrics.

I didn't say the Grammys weren't a joke. I just read an article in the paper where there are lots of protests of his nominations (mostly from the gay community).

oh and my answer to my own poll is...no

Grammy's aren't given for Wholesome and edifying lyrics. If you think that you are just fooling yourself.

Give the guy who sings that he doesn't want a Grammy his Grammy. And lets all get back to our lives.

I think he should be removed and they should put GG Allin in his place. If you think Enimem is offensive, then you know nothing about music. 🙂 No offense, but GG Allin was by far 10 times worse than Enimem ever was or will be.

The guy used to eat his own crap on stage and throw it at the crowd, beat up the audience, cut himself up and promote mayhem and destruction. Enimem is just an image. GG was the real deal.

Even bands like Deicide who are "satanic" don't do anything bad really. They just play their guitars and scream through vox boxes and effects processors to the delight of rebellious teen kids. Death metal / black metal bands in europe are the real deal - they burn down churches and murder, etc. This is not good, but it just goes to show that we really have a lack of perspective regarding music and that we have yet to experience anything truly negative.

What really pisses me off our people like Puff Daddy who thank god for an award, give crap to Marilyn Manson because he "disses god" and then goes off to a club and shoots people. Some representative of God, eh?

Sorry about the rant. Now go buy GG Allin cds! I'm sure everyone will love "suck my ass it smells" - a great song with a profound message.

Eminem's lyric's might be a little bit distasteful but what rap artists lyrics arent?? Rock on Eminem, you go boy!!

My answer to the poll is no. Just because some people find it offensive doesn't mean a damn thing. I for one hope he wins atleast one, just to piss all you people off. lol Of course, I say this because I like his music. 🙂

Eminem should be removed as a nominee not because he is offensive, but because he just plain hasn't done anything really worth being nominated for. But then again, this is the Grammy's I'm talking about..........

<< Eminem's lyric's might be a little bit distasteful but what rap artists lyrics arent?? >>

Mos Def, Common, De La Soul, ATCQ, The Roots...............need I go on?

Oh crap...I voted wrong...I wanted to vote "Yes" but I voted "NO" instead....STFU! I AM NOT FROM FLORIDA!!!

Who cares if the gay community is in an "uproar" about him?

So what? Aren't they always mad about something or someone? Bah. Any of you answering yes should also let the "family" groups pull Marilyn Manson from ever being nominated, etc.

It's a vicious cycle people... special interest groups are always going to have their proverbial panties in a wad about some injustice being done to their interest group members.

First I consider myself the foremost expert on the Grammy's on the forum *point to name*. Anyway he's sold albums incredibly well so why not let him win the award? He made a few people mad, big deal. Actually I'm not much of a rap fan, more classic rock, but after listening to a few tracks that aren't heard on the radio I think I could say he is talented at what he does.....

No, he's talented at what he does and who cares if he goes off and raps the stuff he does? If people buy his CD, they obviously don't care if he does.
