Colleges compete with one another to get students to try to enroll by ensuring a good education and making a good name for themselves. It is capitalism at it's best. Making colleges free would ruin colleges and make them much worse educationally, in my opinion. Do you want colleges to be like public highschools?

The Government?

Laugh.

who pays the teachers in High School and the prison gaurds

We do, through tax. Do you want more tax, even when you're no longer going to school?

We dont need more tax u can get cut the money we spend on welfare and prisons then.

Also if more people go to college they make more then pay more taxes haha

that's assuming they get jobs. They should just start reforming schooling at the lower levels and eliminate the need for college

the reformation wouldn't elimiate need for college, there's no f***ing way you'll learn everything you'd need to know for an engineering degree in high school, but it could shave a few years off if they can get you through all the universal math and physics stuff

No way it should be free.

If it were free people would care even less as the money spent is a huge motivator for people to go to class and not drop out.

Not it should NOT be free. I am a college student and I am also in $15k worth of college debt. I also have to buy $300 worth of books this semester.

college shouldn't be free... if it were, it'd be horribly run and it'd be filled with a bunch of morons who shouldn't be there. the professors would be worthless. you'd have the education level of this guy.

it would just be a bad idea overall...

however, i think the government should give more money to families who can't afford higher education if they have kids going to college. everyone wins in that situation because the family member will get an education and will become part of the taxpaying working-class and, more than likely, stay out of crime.

If I didn't know that was Lenin, my history-inclined friend would slap me. He is the only reason I know what I do about history. Most of my previous history teachers have taught me close to nothing (I'm in High School).

I think the level of education shown in college should be transfered down to the high school level and make college tougher. That would satisfy having good free education while making an advanced education worth the money.

Almost all of the kids who I know that are having 'trouble' with high school just aren't trying, plain and simple. It mostly stems from a lack of studying/completing homework.

That's a bit of a biased little poll you've got going there, but I still voted no. College should be something for which people strive; it can indeed be free (or very close to it) if you put forth enough effort and explore all the proper channels. Besides that, college isn't for everyone, and as such the financial aspects cause people to more carefully weigh their decision whether or not to attend. Finally, as others have mentioned, professors do need to get paid somehow.
