Poll: Should 9/11 be a national holiday?

I'm all for honoring the people who died and stuff...but do we really need anymore holidays? It would be another excuse for our gov't to take a day off while everyone else has to work! I think it would be better if we built a monument or something...

NO! I'm sick of hearing about it. Let's move on and put it behind us. Remember the day, but move forward. We need to look FORWARD, not BACKWARD...

All the people that died are sorry to have to inconvience you. I hope you forgive them. Please, forgive them.

<< no
we don't have holidays for a bunch of other tragic events
>>

What other events killed so many civilians in one day?

<< No. And if there is none for Pearl Harbor, there should be none for 9/11/01. Period. >>

Pearl Harbor was an attack on a military base. 9/11 was an attack on thousands of civilians AND our military HQ. Got brain?

I'm all for it, as long as there's no 9/11 sales.

I don't think it should be a holiday in the sense that we all get off work or something, but some kind of memorial day? Sure. But we don't really have one for Oklahoma City...

Can you conceivably imagine an actual sanctioned 'holiday' not being pimped by the junkmeisters on late night television?

GET YOUR 9/11 10th ANNIVERSARY COMMEMORATIVE T SHIRT, JUST IN TIME FOR THE HOLIDAY!

Bleah.

Call me cynical, but there are vultures that will market ANYTHING if they thnk they can make a buck. I especially love those 'commemorative' coins that are legal tender in Burkina Faso or some place like that..but with all the hallmarks of american coins. BLEAH.

"What other events killed so many civilians in one day?"

There are many, atomic bombing in hiroshima and nagasaki are good examples, I believe the bombing of Dresden also killed many, but I'm not sure if that can be boiled down to a one day event.

Heart disease and cancer also kill thousands in this country each day, I don't think anyone can objectively say that anyone's death is more tragic than another. If you lose your husband/wife/father/mother/sister/brother it's still a loss.

It should be officially observed every year, if that makes it a holiday then so be it. No other day in the history of modern America, including the bombing of Pearl Harbor, has had more of an effect on this country & its people. It should never, EVER be forgotten.
