Which courier service should I use and why?

How much do you think it will cost including insurance and delivery confirmation?

Package dimensions are roughly 18" x 18" x 6" weighing 12 pounds.

I would say Fedex since they are more dependable. Just be sure to pack it really good.

FedEx for sure!

USPS would get the job done but they could mess it up much easier than FedEx. At least 20 bones to ship?

After a few incidents...I can say I'm not a fan of USPS.

I've had nothing but problems with Fedex. Once they were supposed to deliver something where I work and instead of taking it to the mailroom (where everything is supposed to go) they tried to find my office, couldn't, and took the package back with them. Took me 3 days longer to get it. Another time it was supposed to be delivered to my home. I have signed the release to have stuff left, but of course they didn't. Took 3 more attempts to get it to me. Bunch of morons.

For fedex, u can add signature cofirmation service for $2 if u want peace of mind

u are looking for $10-15 shipped via Fedex ground / home delivery, ~ 15-20 via USPS

If you want your package to arrive on time and insured, it's a no brainer : Fedex.

I would go with FedEx. Why? Well, about a year ago, I sold a 200 disc CD changer. During shipment, it was damaged. FedEx Ground paid me for the price of a new player and reimbursed my shipping amount within one month of making the claim. The USPS, on the other hand, has a horrible record when it comes to reimbursing you for damaged items. Heck, FedEx didn't even care to look at the CD changer, or the package, before cutting a check. Granted, one would not want to abuse this service - but it's good to know they're there to back you up if needed.

Small items are fine when shipped via USPS. I don't know if I'd use them to ship a hard drive. However, other items (mouse, cheap software, etc.) - they are fine to use.

OK, with the exception of vetteguy, I wonder who the other two NEF-fers are who voted for the USPS option? Please remember that FedEx is cheaper, more reliable and more dependable than USPS. However, with that being said, FedEx and the USPS are currently in some form of partnership - which makes me wonder if several of our packages are not "lumped" together whether they be from the USPS or FedEx and travel together on the same plane. And, no, I don't own stock in FedEx, nor am I an employee of that company. I am, however, a very happy customer what has been treated quite well by FedEx.

The only thing I would ship with USPS are bricks; and only if you don't mind having a few of them broken.

Please note the fedex ground DOES NOT insure flat panel monitors.

I shipped my 17.4" planar back home last yr, was gonna go ground but I decided not to risk it. $60 for fedex express saver.

Why not? I shipped a 19" flat panel with them about a week ago. Clearly, they didn't have any issue with insuring the monitor for $750, nor me claiming the contents as a flat panel monitor. For them to exclude such an item just seems silly. Actually, Dell uses FedEx quite often for shipping flat panel monitors - but, I guess that's because they are not using the ground portion of the shipping service.

CSR must not be familiar with ground service. See package restrictions:

Fedex
-they come to your house ($2-3 surcharge)
-they have free boxes of high quality
-cheaper (in most cases)
-500 free insurance
-more reliable
-higher quality workers (take that as you may)

Ouch! I was just looking around their site for something of this nature. I can't believe the counter individual didn't mention something to me regarding this last week. This truly stinks. :(

Well this isn't as bad as I thought, although I'd prefer shipping to be around $25. It's better to be safe than sorry.

Service Delivery Commitment Rate (USD)
FedEx First Overnight® 8:00am or 8:30am the next business day to major cities 89.60
FedEx Priority Overnight® 10:30am the next business day to most U.S.cities 63.85
FedEx Standard Overnight® 3:00pm the next business day to most U.S.cities 56.12
FedEx 2Day® 4:30pm in 2 business days to most U.S.cities 35.01
FedEx Express Saver® 4:30pm in 3 business days to most U.S.cities 32.23

I think I'll pay the extra $3 and use FedEx 2nd day, how do I know that's not Ground?

All of the listed service are FedEx. To get FedEx ground, you need to tell them u want fedex ground. FedEx express saver is the cheapest normal fedex shipping

insurance is $1 per $100 i believe on usps.

its .30 cents per $100 on fedex + you get $100 for free.

Prioroity mail is a ton more than fedex ground.

i am shipping a 15 pounds computer barebones from Los angeles, to boston. fedex ground with $200 insurance is like $14 and usps priority something like $32.

FedEx is faster but they are both fine. I love USPS for small items (I have gotten and shipped many of them). They are fast and cheap and you don/'t have to be there to sign anything.

Edit: I bought a notebook computer for $2100 off Ebay and the guy sent it overnight USPS, the sticker on the box said it cost $36 and I paid him $35 for shipping. That is the only big item I have received from USPS but it looked just fine.
