POLL: Seriously- if you could go back in time and kill AOL's CEO, would you?

No halfway, like causing his parents not to meet, or beating him, or cutting off his hands so he can't type...

You are handed a large pistol and put in a time machine. You are told that you will go back in time for 5 seconds, just long enough to do the deed. You will appear right behind him as he is working at a desk in an empty room.

Do you hate AOL enough to murder?

Mods, please remove if not appropriate.

They helped get the home user using the internet and did a great job at it

They did what a business should have done. Many people will be sticking with them for a long time because of how they did things

how old are you?

AOL greatly contributed to the proliferation of the internet in the household. without it, the internet would be a tremendously different place and likely not as interesting or useful to us as it is now.

no

Never used AOL, couldn't care less.
As other have stated AOL made the internet accessible to the masses. If left to techies, the internet would be nothing but star trek forums and porn sites.

Let's not talk whether we should kill the CEO or not, but rather how to get a working time travel device in the first place instead.

I, like I'm sure many people, was first introduced to the internet via AOL. I've since moved onto other things but AOL did make it easy.

But the internet is mostly porn sites... 😕

uh, sure i guess, this goes back to that "would you kill someone if you could if you wouldn't get in trouble for it" thread, hell, a time machine seems like a good way to not get in trouble for it! it might be fun! i would skin him and then wear his skin like a suit, so i could be rich, then i'd tear my skin off one day, and everyone would think im some sort of creepy alien or something, and then i'd get even richer!

Hmm, I predicted the attitude towards AOL to be much more negative.

I gues young folk like me never got to see the bright side of AOL, way back then.

No....AOL was somewhat good for the internet.

Agreed. AOL was finely run under Steve Case. It's when Time-Warner got involved where the troubles began.

Personally, I don't care for AOL, but without AOL, people wouldn't have the capability to get around the 'Net because they need that kind of security blanket.

Now, sadly, I do wish those 750 employees who were let go from AOL yesterday the best of luck. It's a sad time of the year to be kicked to the curb.

No, murder is bad.

i used AOL from about 1995 to 1998 , something like that

it was a good choice back in the day

AOL was a blessing for the internet. The negative attitude now is more about the stupidity/ ignorance of its users thinking that AOL is the internet. For the average person though AOL is perfect because everything is right there and I guess that is why most internet users are using it.

STOP SENDING ME YOUR DAMN TRIAL CDS, ASSHOLES. Yes I'd kill him, and I'd like it. I do not want your 1000 free hours of craptacular 56K access.

If it wasn't for AOL, some other big online service like MSN or Prodigy (remember them?) would have dominated. Let's face it... some people just weren't smart enough to figure out how configure Windows to work with the local dialup ISP's, so someone else was going to get their business.

AOL is fine, my Dad still has an account that he connects to through our cable connection. If it wasn't for all of the extra crap they install on your system (no I don't want another damn toolbar and another thing to disable in MSCONFIG!) I'd probably use it as well.
