Republican Party Too Extreme, Majority Of Americans Say: Poll

For the first time, a majority of Americans now say the Republican Party is too extreme, according to a poll released Thursday by CNN/ORC.

Fifty-three percent of people, including 22 percent of Republicans, said the GOP's views and policies have pushed them beyond the mainstream. The number is up dramatically from previous years. In 2010, fewer than 40 percent thought the party was too extreme.

Democrats were considered to be a "generally mainstream" party by 57 percent in the new poll.

"That's due in part to the fact that the Republican brand is not doing all that well," said Keating Holland, CNN's polling director.

Americans also say that they have far more confidence in President Barack Obama than in congressional Republicans, and that Republicans should compromise more in finding bipartisan solutions.

I'm just stunned. Too extreme? How can that be?

Too extreme yet they control the barometer of the electorate, the house of reps.

They felt democrats were too extreme at a 37% clip. Democrats represented 34% of the polling vs 25% for Republicans.

And without qualifying what "too extreme" means this is a meaningless poll.

Too extreme means they would risk the security of this country just to spite the winning team on the other side of the aisle. It also means they spend money like drunken sailors whilst constantly preaching fiscal conservatism and removing freedoms while espousing the virtues of small government.

You know exactly what this means, and why it is true.

Not really, they lost a third of their House majority between 2010 and 2012, despite a massive assist from a 2010 census that allowed epic gerrymandering. Note that the shift in polls on this question has changed dramatically more negative for Republicans since 2010.

There are more Democrats than Republicans in the country, so this isn't the least bit surprising. Welcome to a post-2008 electorate.

Huh? What is unclear about the word "extreme"?

Of course if you look at one of the so called examples of "epic gerrymandering", Pennsylvania, you would see that the districts were setup by a committee featuring an equal # of democrats and republicans.

Seems to me that if you want to blame gerrymandering for the Democrats losing, you are really condemning them as incompetent morons.

This is what happens when you are a party of racial-gender identity politics. That is what the GOP does and it has finally been recognized as an extremist tactic.

That's because they gerrymandered the congressional district, you god damned retard. More people voted for democrats than republicans in the house races.

If this is the reason why didnt the poll ask it?

Are you really this obtuse? Extreme on which topic? There are a whole lot of them out there. Asking if a political party is too extreme has such a wide range of topics tells us nothing. I can think of one topic that each party holds that I find extreme. They are both extreme holy shit!

Having one party sitting at 50% being too extreme with the other at 37% should tell you that. Extreme doesnt represent 4 and 5 out of 10 people in this country.

He acts like gerrymandering has never happned before. And when it benefits his party will say it is a better representation of the people within the district. The intellectual integrity of many on the left within this forum is slightly above bernie madoff.

The only retards are that pos obama and his supporters.

Yes, the guy who was on the harvard law review is a 'retard'. Coming from the guy who unironically posts Pamela Geller articles. Hahahahaha.

Are you going to post Anders Breivik's manifesto next? He was a big fan of Pamela.

You used the congressional races as 'proof' that Republicans aren't extreme, but you totally ignore that more people voted for democrats than republicans, you fucking moron.

Sure, i'll condemn radical islam, i'll also condemn radical morons like yourself who worship the batshit lunacy of the right, especially pamela geller. Funny thing is, it's the batshit crazy of people like pamella geller who turned LGF from a rightwing muslim hating crazy into someone with rational thought. You should read his blog sometime and lookup his posts on Pam, you nut.

Just to be clear, if a parent kills their child for dressing a certain way or having a boyfriend you will condemn that? If radical Muslims want to take over the country and implement sharia law will you condemn that? Because many of the left refuse to do it.

How am I a "radical moron" I am worried about radical Islam which has destroyed Europe and is already here. Whats LGF?

Finally why do you always resort to insults, its the tolerant left again

LGF = Little Green Footballs, a well known former rightwing blogger that used to be an islamaphobe, until Pam Geller and others turned him off to that, especially after Anders Breivik incident where he killed almost 80 people, mostly children and it turned out he was a big fan of Pam Geller. Really not surprised that you have something in common with Anders. Pam Geller doesn't hate JUST muslim extremists, she hates muslims period.

The truth is most Americans feel both parties are idiots. Thats why there are big swings every election.

But lets not look at this without being bias of course.....

Fixed, because if most Americans feel both parties are idiots, there wouldn't just be a two-party system going on and any 3rd party voice would actually be heard.
