I run both ZoneAlarm and InoculateIT.


Inoculate just caught a web site with IEStart trojan virus.

I still use a 56K dial-up modem, and run McAfee 4.5 with latest SupperDats.
I do not open e-mail attachments, at least, I know that I never have on this new Win2K machine, and I got the Nimda virus.

Is there a better way to protect this machie from all directions?

I looked at Zone Alarm and it says that it is for DSL and Cable connections.

F-Secure AV and Zone Alarm for me. Never had any virus, trojan, etc. on my computer and I plan to keep it that way.

Running Norton Personal Firewal and McAfee VirusScan

NPF pretty much keeps everything out, haven't had a virus in years, and then only when the computers at school were all infected and I brought it home on disk. I just got MVS because I was paranoid, and I found it free...

I haven't had an AV for over 4 years, and I've never had a firewall until I loaded XP. All I have done is kept up to date with every security patch.

Guess what? I've never had a virus, worm, or trojan. Of course, no one else ever touches my computer, therefore I KNOW exactly what is d/led.

Just checked my email, and guess what, that new 'myparty' virus was one of them. NAV caught it right away.
I've always used NAV and i like it, but why the hell won't it give me the option to delete the file right away? Like i'm going to Quarantine it and let it fester in my PC for years..

I use NAV 2002 and ZoneAlarm and so far I have been virus and hack-free (AFAIK ).

As I mentioned above, I am using a Dial-Up connection and Zone Alarm is listed as a DSL / Cable firewall.
Will it work for a Dial-Up connection, and is the Free Download version worth using?

I run AVG and Zonealarm, with a Linksys router/firewall. Never been infected. OTOH, my sister in law neglected to keep her InnoculateIT definitions updated, so I got to clean 4 virii off her system last week :|

I am downloading AVG right now. I use AtGuard Firewall, was a pain to set up, but now works great. Does anyone else have an opinion on AG, someone told me he liked it better than ZA, so I tried it. Looking for other opinions on it.

Like I mentioned above I'm using Zone Alarm and AVG
They seem to work fine together
Zone Alarm is the Firewall and AVG is the virus detector

Yep. Though I got trojan'ed because of a stupid AIM password cracker I got off Morpheus had a virus built into it....that asshead needs to be shot!

Since many virus's now adays modify system files beyond repair before you even notice them on your system (nimda modifies csrss.exe on NT based systems, NT4, Win2k, WinXP.. and leaves a back door into your system, even through a firewall), anti-virus software is the first thing I install... pretty well seconds after the operating system setup is complete.

I just setup Win2k Advanced Server over the weekend, and I had installed Norton AV first, then applied the service pack. During the service pack update, Norton AV dected 10 nimda attempted infections. IIS is suck!

Now I wont go 1 minute without a firewall and AV software..
I didnt even use AV software until last october when I got infected for the first time in 8 years.
