If the PS2's weren't as rare as they are... which would you rather have and whY?

At this moment, Dreamcast. I didn't like the first round of PS2 games (not b/c they suck, but b/c none appealed to me gameplay-wise). The VGA thing on the Dreamcast is awesome also. In four months, it will probably be a different story, as most developers are switching support for Dreamcast to Gamecube, Xbox, and PS2.

Right now I'd take a Dreamcast, for Shenmue. When FFX is released I'll want a PS2. When Zelda is released for the Game Cube, I'll want a Game Cube. Sega is the only system without a famous RPG series (other than Phantasy Star I guess, which I'm picking up PSO for the DC), but that seems to be changing with Shenmue (the designer plans on at least 16 "chapters", with each game presumably being a chapter).

Ive owned both, heres the bottom line IMO the Dreamcast right now is the better system, this holiday season produced some really great dc titles, for 149.99 it cannot be beat. And everything is readily available, couple with the fact that it packs online play outts the box,to be honest ive never tried any of the games online(too used to cable:))but i hear they perform respectably on dial up.They are supposed to be releasing the broadband adapter next month.
The PS2 is really nothing but hype IMO,you get a substandard dvd player,no connectivity out of the box,and a pricetag twice that of the dreamcast.Ive played at least 15 games on the ps2 and did in fact own one.The GFX are no better than DC right now,in some cases worse.
Get a dc bro you wont be sorry.

i've been using both and i think i really prefer DC to PSX2. dead or alive 2 looks better, and i like the games a lot more. i think i'm also more partial to sega then i am to sony, i was just never a PSX fan i guess. never saw the hype, Quake3 on any PC kicks the hell out of the console ;)

I bought the DC and played it about 3 times over a year and then gave it away.. That was before the new games started being released for it though.

To me, the graphics for DOA2 for PS2 is better than the DC version. Maybe it's cause I've been playing it nonstop since I got it, but I did play it on a DC at a friends house once. Granted, DC has better games out right now, but in 3-6 months or so, will that change?

I'm saying Dreamcast. My brother just got one for Christmas (today!), and so far I've done the following with it:
  • View this thread :)
  • Use the Utopia boot disc to:
  • Play anime music videos with GypPlay(MPEG1)
  • Emulate Mariopaint

All games and graphics aside, Dreamcast is obviously the hackers' choice. :D

Dreamcast. I haven't seen anything on the PS2 that looks better graphically, and I've found Sony's lineup of titles mediocre at best. I expect both of these things will change over time (MGS2, for instance), but right now it's overhyped and overpriced. The DC has a much better library, is cheaper, and I would just flat out rather give Sega my support than Sony.

Can't choose - love them both. Right now I sit there in front of my TV going:
"FFIX, Armoured Core 2, or Skies of Arcadia? FFIX, Armoured Core 2, or Skies of Arcadia? FFIX, Armoured Core 2, or Skies of Arcadia? FFIX, Armoured Core 2, or Skies of Arcadia? FFIX, Armoured Core 2, or Skies of Arcadia? FFIX, Armoured Core 2, or Skies of Arcadia?"

ARGH! ;)

Then I watch my Fight Club DVD on my PS2. :)

It's gotta be the DC.
I'm still impressed with Soul Caliber and its been well over a year....maybe I'm just easily amused though.

Dreamcast. Compare DOA2 on the DC and the PS2. PS2 is full of jaggies, yuck. I know that the PS2 developers need to learn the system, FSAA and all that hoopla. For now, DC owns.

As of right now, the Dreamcast has the edge. It has more games, is just as good graphically(better on a monitor), is cheaper, and there are more available. But that all will change. Look to see the PS2 end up with many more games, much better graphics, etc. I own a DC, but that's cause I got it off a friend cheap(system + 2 controller + VMU + jump pack + 4 games for $150!), but if I had the choice(and the money), I'd take a PS2 over it.
