I just want to see what people think on this one. Any OS (mainly win since that's the most popular) and what's the best one?

I've used a ton trying to find one that's efficient, small and not a POS. I liked kjofol, but it seems to have disappeared...I'm shopping for a new one and I'd like to know what's out there...

EDIT: Be sure to vote in the poll

I used to like Sonique, but once you start getting above 500 or so files, it sorta becomes a mess to keep track of everything in Sonique.

So now Im using Winamp with the MPG123 plugin.

You can read more about the plug ins at www.winamp.com, the DFX plug in is for playback in gives sliders to increase things like fidelity, ambiance, 3d sound effect, etc... It's defualt setting impressed me enough to make it a keeper as soon as I heard the music change in midplay. I'm not that familiar with the mad plug in other than it is more accurate for sound reproduction than the default.

I use WinAMP because it's fast and has a good interface. Also because it supports my audio control buttons on my Logitech keyboard

I use SysTray Play because it's very small both in file size (200k) and even more so concerning screen real estate, very fast, and has great shortcuts, allowing me to control playback in full screen games.
It doesn't support vis plugins (don't need them), and though it does support skins, I don't need those either - there isn't much too see anyways.
What I want is functionality, and STP does that.

Hehe I remember Kjofol. Didn't it have a new format? I remember it had smaller files and less cpu usage but when I had used (long ago) it sucked. Everything was slow and skipping whenever I was playing songs with that.

Winamp for me. No plugins or visualionts, just is small, simple.

Winamp when i feel like choosing from a list of songs, Audioactive when i feel sound quality is somewhat lacking with winamp (and yes, with MAD plug-in)

Apollo.

It's not on your Poll and you've probably never heard of it, But it's awesome.

It just uses a stardard win32 interface, no weird skinning or anything. So it's fairly low on resource usage.
Supports Winamp DSP, General and Visualization plugins.
Has full playlist support for standard formats, including random playlist entries (set to your specs)
It has crossfading and silence cancellation built in (user customizable of course)
It use the reference Fraunhauffer decoder so sound quality is on par with any other player.

Let me know if you are interested I can send it to you, he doesn't have a webpage right now (PM, Email or ICQ).
