BTW, if you're wondering, you can't die from holding your breath. If you pass out, you will automatically start breathing again. So feel free to try this experiment

For big wave surfers in Hawaii, a minimum of one minute is essential. Mine was near two minutes.

However, there is a big difference holding your breath in a pool and holding it while being thrashed violently underwater (try running while holding your breath). I think 30-40 seconds in that case is good.

Not sure of the exact time, but somewhat substantial. While getting my Divemaster license (SCUBA) I was required to be without my regulator for substantial periods of time while doing skills.

around 3 minutes at the bottom of a 10ft pool. Thats only after a summer of training though with a good friend(bored summer, I was 14 I think)

Toword the end I swear I could make my hearbeat slower. You know you get that pounding in your ears and I could start to control it.....then again I can also wiggle my ears.

On dry land or in a dead mans float I can go for probably 4-5 minutes.

I remember when I was about nine, I could manage to hold my breath in the bath for over two minutes. Now I struggle to do anything like a minute.
