Poll: Point of View for Racing Games

Just curious, I hate the tailing views, it makes it harder for me to control the car... stupid training.

So what's the preference in general. There may be exceptions to the rule, like Carmageddon was 'mo fun to tail view becaues you could see more carnage and reverse easier, etc. but what do you like for most games.

It depends on the racing game but for the most part I like the overhead view. I feel like I can control the car better because I can see the entire car. So I know how tight I can take turns and how my car is reacting in a power slide.

Up until about 6 months ago, it would be behind all the time.

Now that I've got a decent steering wheel/pedals, i'm starting to use drivers view.

I won't use "bumper" view, I like to see parts of the car to see what's happening with it!

Confused

I've been playing Nascar Racing online for about 4 years now. I'm most comfortable with the cockpit view. To me it gives a more realistic feel. I've tried looking down on the car and you can see around you much better but I cant control the car as well. Some of my racing friends are totally opposite from me though. I guess its just a personal preference.

Good point. If your driving with a joystick or something other than a wheel the overhead view may be better.

I've used the cockpit view on almost every racing game I've played except the Gran Turismo series. For some reason I've always done much better with the overhead view in GT.

Maybe, to a point, but I still think it's preference, I've used a good analogue stick (F16 fighter) and found it easier in cockpit view to control the car. I can see the other racers (that matter) in my mirrors. I have a forcefeedback wheel now and it works fairly well. Maybe with a gamepad the outside car views are helpful... I have yet to find a game where I can control better outside the car than inside. But, I'm not huge into racing games so maybe just me. Pretty mixed results, I'll add the 'bumper' view to the poll.

i find cockpit and bumper view to be the most fun. but if im in simulation mode and need to do well, i go back to tailing/overhead mode

I usually use the bumper view (sometimes cockpit), though it does depend on the game.

It definitely seems to be a personal preference thing though and I'm the only person I know who prefers bumper cam most of the time.

how can yall drive like that...
behind the car is actually putting you in reaction time behind the car....

over limite how far in front you can see...

give me front bumper or the dashboard in the car to drive..
no way i can drive any other way...

the ONLY time i can drive behind or above the car is stuff like NFSU in drift mode when it actually works better to see the entire car and whats in front dont matter much..

I use the tailing view because you have no peripheral vision in games. You can't tell if someone's beside you.

Well, you can, you just have to use mirrors a little more... you see them come up behind and then when there not behind any more if they aren't in front of you they are to your side.

With overhead view you gain the peripheral view but you lose out on distance view from the cockpit (front/back) somewhat.

That's what I hate about every driving game I've ever played on a console, well, that and the stoopid controller...you can't drive a car with a joystick or gamepad controller. I haven't seen one yet that allows you a view from the driver's seat. I want to see gauges, a dashboard and my hand on the wheel and shifter.

No matter what racing game I play, I always use the view where you can't see any part of the car at all. I find it easier to concentrate on the road when I dont have to look at what the car is doing.. it also seems to make the game feel faster

I don't like when you can't see the front of the car. It's harder to know how tight you can take a turn or how far away you are from the guy next to you. I like the overheard/behidn view like used in BurnOut 3. Lets you see everything and is really easy to control.

i use the high tailing views because the more that changes in a frame... the more naucious I get... so I don't like the cockpit view... it's too quick and low... the ground texture changes are too much. I drive perfectly fine with the higher/farther view. Besides, you can correct more, especially if you start spinning out of control.

man i dunno how yall can do that lol...
I crash sooooo much when in any view other than driver seat...
i mean i cant drive a car or ride my motorcycle from behind it.. so natually i want to be in the drivers position casue thats how I drive ...
