Poll: Pick my new laptop

Depends, are you carrying this around? If so all the ones you listed are ~7lb and ~1 3/4" thick. That's a pretty fat "laptop". Do you need all of that power? If not then grab a netbook and call it a day.

Self-explanatory. Whaddya think? I'm pretty much just looking for a good laptop to get some work done on, use internet, watch movies, music, etc. Nothing too fancy.

HP

Compaq

Toshiba

get a dell

Forget Dell, this is perfect for johnjohn320! 😛

I picked the Toshiba because I would NEVER consider buying a refurbed laptop from Tiger Direct. Only buy certified refurbs from the actual manufacturer, like Dell or Apple. There's no telling who refurbed those TD laptops, & considering TD's reputation, I would assume that they suck.

This.

2-year warranty and awesome video card!

OP: Yeah, I would say this^ if you are into moderate gaming. But of the ones you listed, I'd say the HP.

Oh yeah, good find Mermaidman.

Considering that my Toshiba notebook is out on its third RMA, I would suggest against them.

But, since all of them are mostly made by the same three or so Taiwanese OEMs, get the best specifications for the best price with the best warranty and ignore the brand.

This. Though I'm not a fan of that Toshiba.

No Dell or Lenovo? They are both far better than HP/Compaq or Toshiba if you ask me...

Oh yeah, why do you want a 17" laptop? Do you plan on bringing it anywhere with you?

I don't do much work "on the go", so I'm not worried about lugging it around with me all day. It will spend 90% of it's life right here on my desk at home. I like to have a laptop as opposed to a desktop, so that when I do travel for extended periods, I can bring it along. I went for the 17" cause I don't have TV, so this is how I watch movies/shows.

I stand by Lenovo. They usually have some good deals this time of year, too.

Lenovo is often overlooked when buying laptops, but they really have some of the best around.
