512 MB of this stuff costs $170, which is about a $50 premium over the cost of PC2700. Is it worth it for P4 overclocking?

[EDIT:] I found evidence that *might* imply Kingmax frauduluntly markets pc2700 memory as pc3200.... scroll down.

*drool* 512mb = 2x256mb 5ns/PC3200 Kingmax microbga chips (allegedly cas2.5) at $128 total... the premium is more like $30 rather than 50

Yep, true cas2.5 @400ddr

KingMax is a mixed bag. I'd go with the Corsair myself. XMS has never disappointed me yet. The price premium is well worth it.

bah...Corsair is just Samsung memory with heatspreaders. Just buy Samsung PCB w/Samsung chips and save the money.

Ah, but there is a caveat. XMS is, in reality, "just" Samsung chips with a heatspreader and a fancy Corsair logo. BUT, many (most, in fact) of the Samsung for sale is Samsung chips on a (oft low quality) third-party PCB. And even the latest "true" Samsung modules are not hitting DDR400. In fact, I just returned a 512MB module of the DTL (Genuine Samsung PCB) that wouldn't do DDR400 regardless of timings. I still say the extra $25 is worth every cent.

Has anyone ordered from either of the store and got the ram?

heh well, there are no DDR400 mobos are there? The mobo may have more to do with the chips not doing it than the ram itself.

"Has anyone ordered from either of the store and got the ram?"

Kommax reseller ratings

LD-technology not on resellerratings, but they seem to have a large store and provide multiple ways to contact them. IMHO neither seems likely to be a scam.

pc2700 should be plenty good enough. why invest more money in this ram when DDR2 will be coming out? thats the ram i wanna spend the money on. im using pc2100 right now and im buying sum Samsung or mushy PC2700 but as for spending more for DDR400 well i just dont see the point. id rather save the money for the new and improved DDR memory on its way.

Uh-uh! I found condemning evidence showing Kingmax's "PC3200" chips can't even perform at their official specs! i.e. Kingmax is deceiving their customers. However, they were also overclocking the CPU/motherboard, so it could be the reviewer's fault.

The review site no longer exists, but I linked the Google cache.
