POLL: Once and for all, are refurbished motherboards a hot deal?

It's just painful to see someone post a Hot Deal on refurbished motherboards from NewEgg or another company, and then 20 people explain why they don't think it's a hot deal. So maybe we can vote on this issue? Don't argue: it is directly related to hot deals! 😛

Maybe this would even make it into the FAQ of some sort.

If you don't mind, elaborate on your answer. If you think this should be locked and I should be thrown in jail somewhere in Afganistan, please go take your pills.
Bump me 🙂

Once and for all:
If you get it, and it works, it's a hot deal. if you get it and it explodes, leaks, catches on fire, or finances terrorists, then it's not.

Yup. I agree. It is up to the individual to determine if it is a hot deal to them, nota bunch of other people saying so (or not)for them

My friends motherboard in his DELL wasnt refurbed, and the darn thing STILL finances terrorists!

How can you make blanket statements about all motherboards? That's ridiculous. The answer to this question is, of course, "it depends."

I am "0 for 1" with refurb motherboards from Newegg. Although I love to buy from Newegg (they are the best, period), I do believe that theirs refurbs are just someone else's return (as stated above).

In my case, the two week return period was not long enough to fully test my refurb motherboard. Buyer beware . . .

Next time I will spend the money to get a new motherboard. If it is DOA or flaky, it can be send back to Newegg to be turned into someone else's refurb!

You need a "depends" catagory. If it is from Newegg, they state they don't test them, so are they refurbs or returns? I love Newegg but would never buy a refurb from them. I have bought "factory refurbs" from other places - mb, video cards, etc., and they have all worked great. The factory should have tested them, but again, I only trust this to be true if it is from a manufacturer I trust to care about their reputation as well as a reputable vendor.

My motherboard (4 generations behind now) was a refurb. the only thing broken was the CPU Fan plug on the motherboard. Easily solved

WRONG FORUM ok, now that you have been admonished..........

I bought a DEAD AS-IS Tyan TigerMP S2460 Dual AMD Motherboard from newegg for $5.00 + $6.00 shipping. It came shipped in a bag that had "Dead- Burn CPU and Capacitor fall off" written on it in magic marker, it also had a busted CPU socket. I sent it in to Tyan under an RMA. They charged me $30 to replace the CPU socket and fixed the dead part under warranty! They called Tuesday to let me know they were shipping me back my (fully functional) board.

$150'ish Motherboard for $35+ $12 shipping (for newegg and back to Tyan..)

This is my first refurb mobo deal (Do it Yourself Refurb at that..) I would say refurb deals are hot!! (granted I don't have the Mobo yet... my opinion could change...)

BTW: This thread will never answer the question "Once and for All...."
