Let's leave the Germans out of here b/c with the exception of the GTI, they're too expensive. Which would you rather have, an American muscle car or a Japanese pocket rocket?

Japanese speed racer! :) Although if you did have German cars as a choice, I'd choose that!

Combination of both. I want the horsepower & torque that has been characterized by the American V8, yet I also want the light maneuverability of a foreign exotic. I guess this is perfectly summed up by the Ferrari 360 Modena. Is that an option?

Japanese. I'll take a Skyline GT-R Vspec anyday over a US car.. :D

That or a used 300ZX or RX-7..

It depends. If my life were to revolve around flat out street racing, I'd get some grossly overpowered F body car. Maybe strap on one of those aftermarket superchargers so that I can spank any car under 70k. Just as a daily driver or for like a night out on the town with some beautiful girl, maybe a pleasant medium size japanese couple like a solara or an accord coupe. Each has their uses.

I'll take american muscle. No need for premium octane, you can get more options for your money, and I don't have to be lobbed off at the kneecaps to fit into 99% of American Cars.

I've sat in Accords, Civics, Mazda 626's, and a Nissan Maxima, and I could not comfortably fit my knees under the steering wheel.
[edit]Add subaru outback legacy to the list of cars that I can't fit in.

I know it's not engine related, but it is very important in choosing a car :)

[edit #2] I'll take German, thank you. Nice combination of sofistication, handling, and cabin comfort.

Almost all of the American cars that are made to compete with Japanese cars are pieces of sh!t. I woul drather have a Japanese over an american of the same type. Why are you leaving out the germains? Who cares about price? ;)

<< Japanese. I'll take a Skyline GT-R Vspec anyday over a US car.. >>

Actually you probably wouldn't knowing what you could buy for the same price. Skylines are insanely overpriced, and EXTREMELY few get imported to USA.

Viper GTS-R, or a Skyline? :)

You could get a '96 Vspec for $53k. :)

Or go the GTR route and for the price difference, insanely mod it. :)

corvette is the one american muscle car that is well built, refined, well handling, powerful, and relatively cheap for the world class performance. i'd take it over any of them.

The Corvette is NOT a muscle car. It is a sports car in the same vein as a Viper GTS or a Porsche 911.

Mustangs and Camaros are muscle cars, and you couuld even call the Dodge Dakota w/V8 and 5-speed manual a muscle car if you like. It's RWD, dirt cheap, and fast as hell:) Muscle car = cheap speed. A Corvette is $40k+

If we're talking sub $30K price ranges here, I'll take the pocket rocket. For $30K you could pick up a pretty nice last-gen RX7 or Supra Turbo.

Sheesh, for 30K you could nab a nice little A4 w/ all the fixins.

Or, you can nab a two or three year old decked out A4 w/ about 30k miles for around $22,000.

Expensive? Not too bad really for what you get by the time you factor in warranty, options, and style.

Well, I drive a Jap. car so I'm gonna go with Japanese. :)

It would be less hard of a choice if we actually had decent Japanese cars over here. Too bad Nissan doesn't bring the Skyline or Silvia over here. A used 300+ HP R33 Skyline GTR VSPEC goes for 24k over in Japan and a new 250 HP S15 Silvia R-SPEC is only 21k there. Get off yer azz and bring these cars over nissan!!!

SKYLINE!!! But I guess I'll settle for an Acura TL Type S (coming next March!!!)... Honda kicks ass... so does Nissan!
