Well, if life is meaningless, what does killing yourself get you? Nothing. It simply goes against what your are programmed to do: live. Humans like to live. Hell, we downright love living.

Mountain - If you interpret events around you as signs, and you fully believe in them, I have no problem with that. Many people have seen signs. Look at Paul. Historically, he made a change. So something convinced him that he was wrong. I have looked for signs, and pleaded for answers from a few deities. No answers yet. At this point, I simply give up. Over the past 6 years of searching, trying different ways of thinking, I have found one that gives me peace. I think I will stick with it for a while.

I believe anyone with kids can answer this pretty easily. Just take a look at your son or daughter and tell me life is meaningless....

hey poop
thanks for the response. as far as signs go, it is fair to ask for an example, and here goes. my daughter, going to college in a nearby big city was attacked and etc. in her house. not good but not as bad as may have been. result of stupid decisions(and advice) as to what entrance to use. well, she got a big trained dog named rocky that has kept her company since. well now she can move into a much nicer place but guess what, cant bring the dog. the big dog gets to come to my house now and my wife isnot too keen on a permanent big dog. we talk about a kennel in the back but i'm thinking expenses and hassle etc. and lo and behold, at my little children's soccer game this past saturday the league is doing a fund raiser kind of thing and there is this "jail" to put people in for a dollar for fifteen minutes. guess what the "jail" is. a dog kennel you can buy premade. i mean i need this thing and there it is. unfortunately it cost money but then you cant have everything. and i know its not like the burning bush but is it a coincidence? gonna be hard to convince me of that. no, i expect to be "saved" on a daily basis, not only in the rhetorical soul sense( i guess). well it happens to me. but i had to do some major dropping out to start at the beginning. but then that was my trip and it started a long time ago. but statements like "your father(God) know what you need before you do" seem to go for me. its about finding the right "path for yourself". youve got talents. do them. I worked my tail off for years but i felt like it was the thing to do. i then went to college as a voice major and wound up singing in a 50/60's band for years. cause it felt like the good thing to do. and then i got into teaching cause it seemed the right thing to do at the time. sorry for the ramble, not trying to convince just relate. thanks.

Gotcha. I have enjoyed this thread. I think the lack of a few key words kept it from becoming a total shouting match. Keywords being: Atheism, God, Religion, or Jesus.

Those words seem to get some people in an uproar.
