I was floored and envious when I first stepped in... nice high ceilings, nice hardwood floors, sunroom, took advantage of the pool, pool table, etc... but by the end of the day, I wasn't as excited anymore. Sure you can enjoy all the space and such but the appeal doesn't really last. Having your own pool is also very overrated... though it certainly makes your property look real nice. He confessed to spending over $1k per year on maintenance for it. And not much actual swimming.
Contrast this to owning a nice car. Of course the price tags on either are nowhere close but it's the fact that one is actually better to own than the other. I personally would much rather get a phatty new car than to save up 10x the amount for a nice house. Financially responsible people would balk at this but this is all about what's nicer to have in terms of enjoyment. Your call...

Good luck bringing chicks home to your dumpy house (or worse yet, parents' basement) after wowing them with your car. 😛
Good idea! But I prefer not to date gold diggers.

Woodbury. The one I was at wasn't a mansion... just a few large rooms with nice high ceilings and a good deal of front/backyard space. Bigger than I've ever been in though. But the point was that these large houses don't hold its appeal for me.Originally posted by: psteng19

Which part of LI?
They're putting up McMansions like the one you describe all over the NY/NJ area.
I know several people that live in these type of houses.

4 bedroom
2 bath
9 foot celings
2 car attached garage
over 3000 sqft of living space
full basement
on 1 2/5ths of an acre
for $49,500
There are other houses in my area for even cheaper. This way you can have a nice house and a nice car 😀
This is what I bought btw.
EDIT I forgot to mention my taxes on all of this is only $561 a year 😀
