Nice cars + big garage, I couldn't care less about the house.

If I got enough land, I'd pave a drag strip or a small test track 🙂

I was floored and envious when I first stepped in... nice high ceilings, nice hardwood floors, sunroom, took advantage of the pool, pool table, etc... but by the end of the day, I wasn't as excited anymore. Sure you can enjoy all the space and such but the appeal doesn't really last. Having your own pool is also very overrated... though it certainly makes your property look real nice. He confessed to spending over $1k per year on maintenance for it. And not much actual swimming.

Contrast this to owning a nice car. Of course the price tags on either are nowhere close but it's the fact that one is actually better to own than the other. I personally would much rather get a phatty new car than to save up 10x the amount for a nice house. Financially responsible people would balk at this but this is all about what's nicer to have in terms of enjoyment. Your call...

is so sad when you think 1mil for a house is cheap. and for what you described above, thats a freaking steal. I guess thats you get for looking at apartments in nyc heheh.

I enjoy my house much more than my car. I can relax in my house, I am never relaxed in my car given the traffic nitemare that is Northern Virginia.

I spend 8-24 hours a day in my house.

I spend 0-20 minutes a day in my car.

The choice is obvious. Nice house >>>>>>> Nice car.

I'd rather have a nice house. Cars can be stolen or wrecked easily through no fault of your own. Besides, you spend waaay more time in your house than in your car.

Nice house>Nice car any day.

Good luck bringing chicks home to your dumpy house (or worse yet, parents' basement) after wowing them with your car. 😛

Good idea! But I prefer not to date gold diggers.

I think any decent girls don't look at what car you drive but where your priorities are assuming you're not in HS. If you prefer HS girls then a car will do. But if you date maybe 25+ a pad of your own is a plus.

All a car has to do is get me back and forth to work. I don't really care if it's new or old as long as it works. But your house is where you live, eat, raise kids, sleep, play, etc. I'd rate the house far higher than the car on the thing I'd rather have be really nice.

But of course my defnition of a really nice house and someone else's could be totally different...

My ex-grandmother-in-law (heh) married a retired heart surgeon, and they have an incredible house in a gated/guarded community in FL. However, I wouldn't want to live there..I'm not a big fan of fancy houses. As long as I have a nice garage, I'm fine..

You can always move into the town I just did and get something like I bought:
4 bedroom
2 bath
9 foot celings
2 car attached garage
over 3000 sqft of living space
full basement
on 1 2/5ths of an acre
for $49,500

There are other houses in my area for even cheaper. This way you can have a nice house and a nice car 😀

This is what I bought btw.

EDIT I forgot to mention my taxes on all of this is only $561 a year 😀

Which part of LI?
They're putting up McMansions like the one you describe all over the NY/NJ area.
I know several people that live in these type of houses.

Woodbury. The one I was at wasn't a mansion... just a few large rooms with nice high ceilings and a good deal of front/backyard space. Bigger than I've ever been in though. But the point was that these large houses don't hold its appeal for me.

People with those kind of house doesn't "save" for it. Also, you can get a similar house outside NY for MUCH cheaper price.

Of course, for some people, they put priority on their living space rather then their car because you spend much more time in your house than your car.

For me, I would hav a hanger of cars like Jay Leno....

i'd want a house for sure. however, i definitely do not need anything extremely lavish or extravagant. if anything, i'd want a spacious bedroom with a nice jacuzzi tub (if we even call that lavish nowadays), a decently sized computer room, a nice family room, a nice dining room, and other bedrooms as deemed necessary (for the children of the future) 😛

right now i live in an apartment, and while i love its location, it's rather small for what i have to store. our computers are bunched up in a corner, we still haven't moved out of our boxes since there's no place to put anything. if we eliminated the computer corner, we could have a little more space to walk, which i think would be truly nice. also, my kitchen has one countertop which obviously isn't enough when i plan on cooking often.

Homes can get too big. I'd like something comfortable in size, but nice. Don't really care for cars too much.

If your goal is to pick up girls and have a one night stand - car meaningful realationship - house or............. if you are like most people on ATOT who just needs a place to go on the computer - parent's house

damn where are u located??

A couple of years ago I was renting out my condo and this guys pulls up in a brand new lexus (I new he would say something interesting), he liked the place but thought it might be out of his price range, I looked at him then his car and I just laughed.

When I got home I went online to see how much his car cost and it cost more than the condo.
